World Cup 2026 qualification continues in Riga this weekend as Latvia welcomes Andorra to the Daugava Stadium.

Now winless in five matches, the hosts come into this contest as odds-on-favourites to secure their second win of the qualification campaign against the visitors from Andorra.

Latvia have had the better of past meetings between these nations, and will be confident of securing victory in front of their home support in Riga.

Latvia and Andorra have met on nine previous occasions. Latvia won five of those matches, including a 1:0 victory earlier this year, while four games finished level.

Latvia team overview

Latvia returns to home soil after a narrow 1:0 defeat in their most recent World Cup qualifier against Albania last month. Kristjan Asllani's first-half penalty secured a hard-fought home win for the Albanians.

Since winning their first Group K fixture against Andorra earlier this year, Paolo Nicolato's side have picked up just one point while losing three of four qualifiers, including a 1:0 home defeat against Serbia in September.

Still, with Andorra their opponents on Saturday, the Sarkanbaltsarkanie will fancy their chances of claiming the spoils. Latvia won 3:0 when they last hosted Andorra three years ago.

Latvian boss Paolo Nicolato has a 28-man squad available this week. Raimonds Krollis and Roberts Uldriķis remain long-term injury absentees for the home nation.

Andorra team overview

Andorra return to World Cup qualification action still searching for their first points in Group K after a 2:0 defeat against England last month. Despite a spirited display, the Tricolor fell to a fifth successive defeat.

A lack of firepower remains the biggest issue for Andorra, who have failed to score in all five of their World Cup qualifying defeats in the past year.

Much improved defensively, a low-scoring encounter seems likely this weekend. Andorra conceded an average of two goals per game in Group K, while only two of their last 13 games finished with over 2.5 goals scored.

Head coach Koldo is likely to stick with the same XI that began last month's 2:0 defeat against England. Experienced midfielder Marc Vales is poised to win his 102nd cap.

Prediction

Despite their own lack of winning form, Latvia should have too much quality for an Andorran side that rarely picks up points on their travels.

A home win is my best bet in Riga.

Three Reasons Why We Expect Latvia to Win

  1. Latvia won 3 of their last 4 matches against Andorra
  2. Andorra failed to win their last 9 matches against Latvia
  3. Andorra lost 12 of their last 15 matches
