Genk look to get back on the winning saddle when they take on title-chasing Club Brugge on Thursday afternoon.

The home side come into this fixture now winless in five games after a 2:2 draw against Charleroi last weekend, while Brugge make the trip to Cegeka Arena following a narrow win against Gent last Sunday.

Brugge have had the better of recent meetings, and will be confident of picking up a third successive victory on Thursday.

Genk team overview

Genk return to Belgian Pro League action on Thursday after an entertaining 2:2 draw against Charleroi last weekend. Bryan Heynen bagged a brace but despite taking the lead twice, the Blauw-Wit were forced to settle for a point at Stade du Pays de Charleroi.

Now led by former Brugge boss Nicky Hayen - who was surprisingly sacked as Brugge boss just two weeks ago - Genk have struggled to find much form in recent weeks. The hosts failed to win any of their last five matches, while they have won only two of nine games played since the start of November.

Defensive vulnerabilities have been the biggest issue for Genk. The Blauw-Wit conceded at least one goal in their last ten matches. Seven of those games finished with BTTS, and a similar outcome seems likely this week.

Head coach Hayen has four expected absentees this weekend. Junya Ito, Ken Nkuba, Joris Kayembe and Noah Adedeji-Sternberg are tipped to remain sidelined.

Club Brugge

Club Brugge team overview

Club Brugge make the trip to Cegeka Arena in high spirits after back-to-back domestic victories picked up in the past fortnight. Following a convincing 5:1 win at Dender, the Blauw-Zwart edged past Gent with a 2:1 success last weekend.

Now set for his third match in the Brugge hotseat, Head coach Ivan Leko will be looking for improvements in the visitors defence. The Blaw-Zward conceded at least one goal in their last seven games. Four of their five most recent matches finished with BTTS.

Placed second in the Pro League, Leko's men come into this fixture 13 points clear of Genk, but three points behind champions USG.

New boss Leko has four injury issues this week. Simon Mignolet, Nordin Jackers, Lynn Audoor and Ludovit Reis are expected to remain unavailable for the visitors.

Prediction

Goals can usually be expected when these sides are involved, and I expect another entertaining Pro League contest on Thursday.

BTTS is my preferred pick from the Cegeka Arena.

Three Reasons Why We Expect BTTS

  1. Genk have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 7 matches
  2. Club Brugge have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches
  3. Genk have seen BTTS in 2 of their last 3 home matches against Club Brugge
