The Europa League league phase has come to an end, and the 1/16 Finals are about to begin. One of the duels will see one of the Turkish giants, Fenerbache, host last year's Premier League sensation, Nottingham. The hosts are coming to the game on a four-game winning streak, while the Forest will be looking to stop their three-game unbeaten run.

Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this Europa League tie.

Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce team overview

Fenerbache, a 19-time Turkish champion, invested a lot of money in recent seasons. Unfortunately, they have constantly finished second, behind their rivals, Galatasaray. This year, the Yellow Canaries are looking strong and are in 2nd place, just three points behind Galatasaray. They generally look better than in previous seasons and even won the Super Cup in early January, beating Galatasaray. That is only their second trophy in the previous decade.

After a 3:2 win over Trabzonspor, coach Domenico Tedesco spoke to the media. He was happy with the win and the team's belief, emphasising they showed good character. The coach said they have a luxury of many high-tempo players, which helped them overcome difficulties in the game.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham team overview

Nottingham had a magnificent last season, almost reaching the Champions League. However, after sacking coach Nuno Espirito Santo due to a disagreement with the president, Evangelos Marinakis, the situation changed drastically. This year, Nottingham have consistently been in and around the danger zone in the PL and are currently in 17th place - just three points from the danger zone! They were also eliminated early from the FA Cup and EFL Cup, and pretty much their only bright spot of the season has been in the Europa League.

After coach Nuno Espirito Santo left, the Forest changed two more coaches (Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche). On 15th February, the club appointed the 4th coach of the season, Vítor Pereira, who will make his debut against Fenerbahce. Interestingly, Pereira was already in charge of Fenerbahce twice, in the 2015/16 and 2021/22 seasons.

After Vítor Pereira's appointment, the coach spoke to the media. He spoke very little about the season's goals and more about the club's good conditions. The coach said he wants his players to have the freedom to express themselves, enjoy themselves, and be happy.

Prediction

Fenerbahce are in excellent form, having won four in a row while scoring 11 goals - 2.75 per game. They have also lost just once (vs Aston Villa) in their past 11 games across competitions, while winning eight of those matches. Moreover, Fenerbahce relies heavily on their home pitch, and have proven they can beat good teams in Istanbul. In the past two seasons, they have beaten Stuttgart, Nice, Feyenoord, Anderlecht, and Union St. Gilliois in Europe.

On the other hand, Nottingham are without a win in their past three games, having faced mediocre opponents - Wolves, Leeds, and Crystal Palace. They have generally struggled this season, and were particularly bad on the road, losing 10 of 19 - 53%.

Considering what we have seen from these teams throughout the season, the difference in form, and a home-pitch advantage, we believe the Turkish vice-champions are much closer to winning the upcoming Europa League tie.

4 Reasons why Fenerbahce should win

  1. Fenerbahce won the last four games
  2. Fenerbahce lost once in the past 11 matches
  3. Nottingham failed to win in the past three games
  4. Nottingham lost 53% of their road games
