On Sunday afternoon at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Everton will welcome Brighton. Neither of the teams impressed in the opening round, so they hope to improve their impression in the upcoming clash. Brighton are slight favorites for a victory on Sunday, but can Everton get something from the game? Let's break down the matchup and find out the best possible betting option.

Although Brighton are a better Premier League team than Everton in the last few seasons, the Seagulls failed to dominate in the H2H matches. Everton won four of the previous ten games, compared with three Brighton wins, while three matches finished with a draw. Another interesting fact about H2H games between these two teams is that three of the last four matches ended with two or fewer goals.

Everton

Everton team overview

Some of the previous seasons were troublesome for Everton, as they feared relegation for most of the year. Last season, however, the Toffees showed signs of progress, finishing safely in mid-table. Despite that improvement, Everton are still viewed as a team that could slip back into relegation.

Everton had a disappointing preseason with two draws and four defeats. Bad form continued in the Premier League opening round, when Everton lost 1-0 on the road against Leeds. The home side finished the match with an xG of 2.14, while the guests had 0.80, so it is no wonder Everton stayed empty-handed.

Everton have almost a full squad for Sunday's game against Brighton. Antonee Robinson is still nursing a knee injury and will not play, while Ryan Sessegnon is questionable and his status will be clearer closer to the kickoff.

Brighton team overview

Although Brighton fell short of qualifying for European football in the 2025/26 season, they still enjoyed another strong campaign. The Seagulls are one of the most stable teams in the previous few seasons and that shouldn't change in the current year, either. Fabian Hurzeler's team had a good preseason with four wins and one draw. In their Premier League opener, they were heavy favorites at home against Fulham, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw after conceding a dramatic equalizer deep into stoppage time.

It is still early in the season, but Brighton already have a long list of absences. They will miss Solomon March, Julio Enciso Espinola, and Adam Webster on Sunday, while Jack Hinshelwood and Charalampos Kostoulas are questionable to play.

Prediction

The teams are in completely different moments right now. Everton continued with a bad form in the Premier League opening round after a terrible preseason. On the other hand, Brighton failed to beat Fulham in the first match of the season, but they played well in that game. After a good series of friendlies this summer, they shouldn't panic about one failure. Brighton didn't have too many successes against Everton in the previous years, but interestingly, their three wins in the last ten H2H matches always came on the road. The Seagulls always played well at Goodison Park, so we should expect a good match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, too, a new Everton home. Our prediction: Brighton to win AH (0).

4 Reasons why Brighton should win against Everton

  1. Everton lost five of seven matches this summer
  2. Everton scored four goals in seven games this summer
  3. Brighton are undefeated in the last six matches,  including preseason
  4. Brighton allowed only two goals in the previous three games
