Espanyol are playing better than expected this season. Most pundits predicted that Manolo Gonzalez's side would struggle in the lower half of the La Liga table, but after 12 rounds, they have proven competitive enough to challenge for a European spot. However, their form began to slow as Espanyol lost their last two matches. In the most recent outing, Gonzalez's team lost 2-0 at home against Villarreal. The guests had far more goal-scoring opportunities throughout the game, so it is no wonder Espanyol remained empty-handed again. 

Espanyol's head coach, Manolo Gonzalez, has almost a full squad available for the upcoming clash against Sevilla. Javi Puado should be the only absentee. 

Last season was terrible for Sevilla as they ended with only one point above the relegation zone. The current campaign should be much less stressful for Matias Almeyda's team. They are in the top half of the table and seem good enough to stay clear of the relegation dogfight. Sevilla won two of the last three matches in all competitions. In the previous game, they won 1-0 at home against Osasuna. The teams were pretty even, but the hosts found a way to secure all three points.

Sevilla are improving this season under Matias Almeyda. The head coach recently talked about the process. He said, "I want more, I want to experience the same era everyone here has lived through. This is a process, I'm determined, and I hope I can achieve it. This club has an incredible fanbase that gives you a different feeling. A house isn't built overnight; there's no magic here, just hard work, otherwise the process will falter." 

Jose Angel Carmona received another yellow card in the previous La Liga round and will not play on Monday night at RCDE Stadium. Sevilla will also be without injured Cesar Azpilicueta and Tanguy Nianzou, while Lucien Agoume, Fabio Cardoso, Isaac Romero, and Alexis Sanchez are questionable.
