- Date: 24th September, 2025
- Kickoff: 20:00 UK / 21:00 CEST
- Venue: Stadium Rajko Mitić
FK Crvena Zvezda and Celtic FC - two clubs that failed to qualify for the Champions League group stage - will meet at the Rajko Mitić Stadium on Wednesday to kick off their 2025/26 Europa League campaign. Both the Serbian and Scottish champions stumbled at the final hurdle in the Champions League playoffs: Crvena Zvezda were eliminated by Cypriot side Pafos FC, while Celtic suffered a shock defeat to Kairat Almaty.
This will be the first ever competitive meeting between FK Crvena Zvezda and Celtic.
Crvena Zvezda team overview
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the Champions League, Crvena Zvezda have been flying domestically. They have won all seven of their league matches and sit top of the Mozzart Bet Superliga with 21 points, two ahead of arch-rivals Partizan Belgrade, who have played a game more. Vladan Milojević’s side have been particularly ruthless in recent outings - scoring 14 goals across emphatic wins over Novi Pazar, Železničar, and Partizan.
Aleksandar Katai leads the scoring charts with 11 goals in just seven appearances, underlining the team’s impressive attacking output.

Celtic team overview
Celtic endured a similar fate in Europe, crashing out of the Champions League playoff round after losing 3-2 on penalties to Kairat Almaty, having failed to score in 210 minutes across two legs. The shock defeat against such modest opposition has visibly dented their confidence. Following that setback, they went three consecutive matches without finding the net, including a goalless draw in the Old Firm derby against Rangers just before the international break.
Although they returned with a narrow 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock, their overall performances have been unconvincing. Still, they remain unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership after five matches. One bright spot has been 24-year-old Swedish forward Benjamin Nygren, who has already scored three goals this season.

Prediction
Both teams endured disappointing Champions League exits, but Crvena Zvezda appear to have recovered far more convincingly. With seven wins from seven in the league and an attacking line that has scored 14 goals in their last three games, the Serbian champions look sharp and confident. Celtic, by contrast, have struggled to find fluency and cutting edge, managing only a hard-fought win over Kilmarnock after their European collapse.
Three reasons we expect Crvena Zvezda to Win
- FK Crvena Zvezda have won three consecutive league matches in recent weeks, scoring a combined 14 goals.
- They remain unbeaten in the league this season, winning all seven fixtures while netting 30 goals and conceding only five.
- Celtic, meanwhile, were knocked out of the Champions League by Kairat Almaty - a setback that has clearly damaged their confidence.
