Before that victory, the Blues endured a miserable run of form, suffering four consecutive defeats, including home and away thumpings against PSG in the Champions League.

Liam Rosenior’s inconsistent side also slipped to a limp 3:0 defeat at Everton and an uninspiring 1:0 home reversal against Newcastle in a dismal month for the Blues.

Recent results have seen Chelsea drop to sixth in the division, now 13 points behind Man City, and only two points above eighth-placed Everton. 

Head coach Rosenior has a handful of selection issues this weekend. Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill are unavailable while Filip Jorgensen, Jamie Gittens and Reece James are all doubtful to feature at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City make the trip to London with renewed confidence after a pair of big victories in recent weeks. Having secured EFL Cup glory with a well-deserved 2-0 win against Arsenal before the international break, the Citizens maintained their momentum with a dominant 4-0 victory against Liverpool in the FA Cup  last weekend.

While a Champions League defeat against Real Madrid exposed certain limitations, City have remained strong domestically, winning nine of their last 11 matches.

A dominant recent record in this fixture will give further confidence to an already buoyant squad, with Guardiola’s side winning nine of their last 12 meetings against the Blues since 2021.

Pep Guardiola has some defensive headaches ahead of the trip to London. Josko Gvardiol is ruled out with a broken leg, while John Stones and Ruben Dias are both doubts due to calf and hamstring issues respectively.
