Two sides short on winning form collide in Sardinia this weekend as Cagliari entertain Pisa in a vital fixture in the fight to avoid relegation from Italy´s top flight.

Pisa make the trip to the Unipol Domus in the midst of a three-game losing run while Cagliari return to home soil after a narrow road reversal at Atalanta last weekend.

Now set for their first-ever Serie A encounter, both teams will be desperate to claim a vital win in Sunday`s Serie A contest.

Cagliari

Cagliari team overview

Cagliari return to Unipol Domus looking to bounce back from a narrow 2:1 defeat against Atalanta last weekend. Gianluca Scamacca bagged a brace as La Dea edged to victory in Bergamo.

Fabio Pisacane´s men have endured a tough run of results in the past couple of months, failing to win all but one of their last 12 games. Cagliari did claim a vital 1:0 win against Roma in their most recent game at Unipol Domus after a thrilling 3:3 draw against Genoa at the end of November. The Sardinians now sit 15th in Serie A, only two points above the drop zone.

Three of Cagliari´s last four games finished with over 2.5 goals, and another entertaining fixture could be on the cards with Pisa´s road matches averaging over three goals per game.

Head coach Pisacane has a handful of absentees this weekend. Andrea Belotti, Zé Pedro, Mattia Felici, Gennaro Borrelli and Yerry Mina are all unavailable.

Pisa

Pisa team overview

Pisa hit the road still searching for their first points in December. Alberto Gilardino´s side failed to score while losing each of their last three games, including a 1:0 defeat at Lecce last weekend.

I Nerazzurri have struggled to find much form since their return to Serie A in August. Pisa failed to win 14 of 15 Serie A games, and now sit second bottom of the division, with just ten points on the board.

On the ross, Gillardino´s men have proven an entertaining side to watch this season. I Torri saw 24 goals scored in just seven away Serie A fixtures.

The visitors come into this fixture with three players unavailable. Calvin Stengs and Juan Cuadrado remain sidelined. M’Bala Nzola is suspended and will miss out.

Prediction

Pisa have been involved in several high-scoring away games this season, and with both teams desperate for the points, an open contest could deliver a high-scoring outcome at a big price.

Over 2.5 goals is my best bet for Sunday´s Serie A relegation battle.

Three Reasons Why We Expect Over 2.5 Goals

  1. Pisa have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 away matches (Serie A)
  2. Cagliari have seen over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches
  3. Cagliari have seen over 2.5 goals in 2 of their last 3 home matches
