Birmingham City played the entire 2024/25 season in League One, where they finished top of the table with 111 points, 19 points clear of second-placed Wrexham. The Blues completed an extensive pre-season tour, playing seven friendlies, of which they won four and lost three.
Ipswich Town, meanwhile, return to the Championship after a disappointing season in the Premier League. The Tractor Boys finished second in the Premier League in the 24/25 season, winning just four out of a possible 38 games. Ipswich won all four of their pre-season friendlies.

Prediction
Birmingham City played a fantastic season in League One last season, winning a remarkable 34 out of a possible 46 games and suffering only 3 defeats. They didn't lose any of their 23 possible home games at St Andrew’s last season and, more importantly, they are currently unbeaten in 7 consecutive H2H home games against Ipswich. The away side may still be hungover after relegation from the Premier League and with the departure of Liam Delap to Chelsea, it could be a difficult season for them. Based on all this evidence, we reckon Birmingham City will start the 2025/26 Championship season with a win.
Three reasons we expect Birmingham City to Win
- Birmingham City are undefeated in 7 consecutive home matches against Ipswich (all competitions)
- Ipswich have recorded only 3 wins out of the possible 22 in all competitions
- Birmingham City have been promoted to the Championship following a successful season in League One and should be highly motivated to mark their return with a home win
Main prediction Birmingham City - Ipswich Town
Birmingham City to win
