Bayer Leverkusen had two fantastic seasons behind them under Xabi Alonso. They won the double and were the EL vice-champions in 2023/24 and finished second in the Bundesliga last season. However, after coach Alonso left, the results got worse. This year, under Kasper Hjulmand, "Die Schwarzroten" are in fifth place with 14 points in seven rounds - already seven points away from the top spot. However, in the Champions League, their results have really been poor as they have only won two points in three rounds and sit in 30th place (out of 36 teams).

After a 7:2 loss vs PSG, coach Kasper Hjulmand spoke to the media. He was obviously unhappy with a massive loss, saying they are hurt by the result but have to shake it off and look forward. "We lost the game in seven minutes. Maybe we would have lost it anyway. But the way we managed those minutes wasn't good," the coach added.

Last year, Freiburg did very well in the Bundesliga. They finished fifth, missing out on the Champions League due to the loss in the last game of the season. This year, "Breisgau Brazilians" had an atrocious start, losing the first two Bundesliga games. However, after that bad start, they went on a six-game unbeaten run. Right now, they are in 10th place in the Bundesliga with nine points - two points away from European spots. And in the EL, they were excellent, winning seven points in three rounds. 

After a 2:0 win over FC Utrecht in the Europa League, coach Julian Schuster spoke to the media. He was very happy with a win, praising the team's attitude. The coach also stressed the importance of their rotation ahead of four away games in 13 days.
