An out-of-form Al Riyadh look for an improved performance on Thursday when they take on Al-Ettifaq.

The home side come into Christmas Day's Saudi Pro League contest without a win since October while Al-Ettifaq look to extend their unbeaten run to four matches after a hard-fought win against Al-Fahya last week.

Set for only their seventh-ever meeting this week, a competitive and potentially entertaining encounter could be on the cards at Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz Stadium.

Al Riyadh

Al Riyadh team overview

Al Riyadh come into Thursday's Saudi Pro League contest looking to bounce back from a 2:1 defeat against Al-Ittihad last weekend. Mamadou Sylla's late goal proved consolation only for Daniel Carreno's side.

The hosts have not been at their best in recent weeks, having failed to win any of their last four games. Over a longer period, Al Riyadh failed to win all but one of their last seven games since the end of September.

Defensive issues have been a recurring theme for Carreno's men. Riyadh conceded at least one goal in all but two of their last 24 matches since April. As a result, BTTS has been a solid choice when the hosts are involved.  Al Riyadh have seen BTTS in five of their last seven games and three of their four most recent home fixtures.

Head coach Carreno could make one or two changes to his first XI this week. Yahia Al-Shehri is in contention to earn a recall after setting up Mamadou Sylla's late goal when appearing as a second-half substitute last weekend.

Al Ettifaq

Al-Ettifaq team overview

Al-Ettifaq make the trip to Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz Stadium in winning form after edging past Al-Fahya with a 3:2 success on Tuesday. Moussa Dembélé bagged a double while Dutch playmaker Georginio Wijnaldum also got his name on the scoresheet for the Knight of Ad-Dahna.

Before their midweek victory, Al-Ettifaq had failed to win four games played since the end of September.

Like the home side, high-scoring outcomes have been frequent for Saad Al-Shehri's side. Seven of their last eight games finished with BTTS and over 2.5 goals scored.

Al-Shehri has a strong squad available this week with no reported injury issues.

Prediction

Goals can usually be expected when Al Ettifaq are involved, and I expect that pattern to continue on Thursday.

BTTS is my best bet at Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz Stadium.

Three Reasons Why We Expect BTTS

  1. Al Riyadh have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 7 matches
  2. Al Riyadh have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 4 home matches
  3. El Ettifaq have seen BTTS in 7 of their last 8 matches
