Xabi Alonso's next club odds: Which team will be Alonso's next job?

By Klimentijs Konevs | Published: January 13, 2026

After just eight months in charge, Xabi Alonso was sacked by Real Madrid. The decision came one day after a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup. In many ways, the outcome felt inevitable. Alonso had communication problems with players, and the club offered little room for him to fully implement his ideas. Now, out of work midway through the season, attention quickly turns to Xabi Alonso's next job odds. Let's break it down.

Pic about Alonso's next club odds

Xabi Alonso's next club odds

The latest odds point strongly towards the Premier League, with several English clubs leading the market. Liverpool sit clear at the top, followed by Bayern Munich as the most realistic non-EPL option. Manchester United and Tottenham also feature prominently, showing the demand for an elite managerial reset.

Club Odds
Liverpool 2.37
Bayern Munich 6.50
Manchester United 9.00
Tottenham Hotspur 10.00
Spain 11.00
Manchester City 13.00
Paris Saint-Germain 15.00

Liverpool

Looking at the betting odds, Liverpool is the most likely destination for Alonso. However, it can be problematic. Arne Slot was close to being sacked earlier in the season after a poor run, which included defeats to significantly weaker sides. The club chose to back him, and Liverpool are now unbeaten in their last 11 matches across all competitions. It would be strange to show faith at his lowest point, only to pull the trigger now that results have stabilised just to make room for Alonso.

The connection is obvious: Alonso is a former club legend, and the current squad looks well-suited to his tactical ideas. Liverpool have also signed two of his former players from Bayer Leverkusen - Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. A mid-season change still looks unlikely. If Alonso takes a break until the summer, then a move to Anfield could be much more realistic.

Bayern Munich

Alonso is a former Bayern player and was strongly linked with the job during his time at Bayer Leverkusen. He knows the Bundesliga inside out, having both played in it and won the title as a coach. Bayern are almost always favourites domestically and can offer a straightforward path for Alonso. However, the biggest obstacle here is Vincent Kompany, the current manager of the Bavarians.

Kompany has been outstanding since arriving. His team won the Bundesliga last season and remains unbeaten this year. He has also signed a new contract until 2029. Bayern have no reason to change course right now, making Alonso's move realistic only for the future.

Manchester United

Man United have just sacked Ruben Amorim and are searching for a solution at least until the end of the season. The timing is hard to ignore, and United could be tempted to make contact. In theory, the offer could be appealing. A modern, aggressive coach with authority is exactly what United lack. The bigger question, however, is whether Alonso would want the job.

Old Trafford has become a graveyard for managers, with limited control behind the scenes. We've all seen Amorim's last interview before getting sacked. It sounded like managers' hands were tied. It is the same power imbalance that hurt Alonso in Madrid, where players are above the coach. On top of that, many fans would struggle to accept a former Liverpool legend taking charge, given the fierce rivalry between the clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham are emerging as a serious option this time. Thomas Frank, appointed in June as the new manager, is already under heavy pressure because of poor results. Spurs are sitting 14th in the league with just two home wins. Rumour has it the club have already opened talks with Alonso, viewing him as the spark needed to rescue the team.

For Xabi, this would be a strong redemption arc. He previously took over a struggling Bayer Leverkusen, who were near the relegation zone. Alonso transformed them into a trophy-winning team, even reaching the UEFA Europa League final. Compared to the constant pressure at Real, Tottenham would likely be a less stressful environment and a long-term project for Alonso.

Others

An international role could be appealing to Alonso. He enjoyed huge success with Spain as a player, winning the World Cup and two European Championships. Replicating that dominance as a coach of the Spain national team would be a challenge, but why not?

If it comes down to the Premier League, Manchester City could also be an option if Pep Guardiola leaves. Alonso played under Pep at Bayern and could become a good successor. City ended last season trophyless, and Guardiola's reign will come to an end sooner or later.

Links to Paris Saint-Germain remain speculative. Despite winning the UEFA Champions League last season, PSG do not look invincible in the league phase this time around. In addition to that, the team lost to Paris FC in the Coupe de France. Still, Luis Enrique is unlikely to be sacked in the near future.
