Wolfsburg have been a mid-table team in the previous four seasons, and most football pundits expected them to battle to secure Europe this season. However, that couldn't be further from the truth, and the team from Lower Saxony found themselves in the relegation zone. After 26 rounds, they are in 17th place with a mere 21 points. Since the safe zone and their next opponent (Werder Bremen) are four points away, this game is massive. While there is a lot of football to be played, the upcoming match is undoubtedly their most important game of the season. 

On 8th March, the club appointed Dieter Hecking as their new head coach. Under the new head coach, Wolfsburg drew 1:1 with Hoffenheim. However, the coach wasn't fully satisfied because they had a lead but failed to hold on to it. Still, he praised the team for their organization and fighting spirit.

For the upcoming game, the team should have no new injuries, but eight players who missed the previous games should remain sidelined. 

Werder Bremen are another German giant that were tipped to be close to European spots before the start of the season. But like Wolfsburg, they are having a really bad season and are only looking to survive right now. However, with two wins in the past three games, they managed to escape the danger zone and are now four points away from it and one point away from relegation playout.

A big part of Werder's bad season is constant injuries. In the previous game against Mainz, central defender Julian Malatini suffered an injury, adding his name to the injury list. With Malatini out, the team could miss up to nine players with injuries! Additionally, one of their key players, Jens Stage, will serve his one-game suspension, and his absence will be a massive factor, especially with so many injuries.
