This season carries an uncomfortable weight for West Ham. Fourteen straight Premier League campaigns is a proud run, and it now feels under genuine threat.

Thirteen points from 17 matches leaves the Hammers in the bottom three, five points adrift of safety, which is just enough distance to create anxiety without quite tipping into panic.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side did find a brief spark back in November, picking up back-to-back wins against Newcastle and Burnley. Since then, though, victories have been elusive.

Still, it would be unfair to say West Ham have collapsed completely. There have been moments. The 2-2 draw with Bournemouth still stings, leading by two at the break and somehow not finishing the job.

Draws away at Old Trafford and the Amex showed resilience, and even against Aston Villa, the Hammers led twice before being undone.

Jarrod Bowen remains the clearest attacking outlet. Five league goals and an assist underline how much responsibility sits on his shoulders, and he will start again here. Behind him, options are thinner. Lukasz Fabianski remains sidelined with a back injury, while Oliver Scarles is also out due to a collarbone issue.

Fulham’s recent Premier League life has been fairly calm by comparison. Since returning to the top flight after the 2021-22 season, relegation talk has rarely felt urgent. Last season, the Whites recorded their fewest league defeats in that spell. This time around, seven losses have already arrived, and the campaign is not even halfway done.

Even so, perspective matters. Fulham sit ten points above the drop zone, and that cushion buys patience. Marco Silva’s side have also been quietly impressive away from home lately, winning their last two road games against Spurs and Burnley. That alone gives them reason to travel east with confidence.

The Whites continue to lean on Raúl Jiménez, who has chipped in with three goals and two assists in the league. With Samuel Chukwueze away at AFCON duty in Morocco, Kevin and Harry Wilson are expected to provide support from wide areas.

Calvin Bassey is also on international duty, while Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon are both sidelined with hamstring problems.
