The 2026/27 UEFA Nations League is expected to be connected with UEFA EURO 2028 qualifying, offering teams an additional path to reach the final tournament. This, however, remains subject to the official approval of the competition format and regulations for UEFA EURO 2028. Previously, after the EURO 2024 qualifying group stage, the playoffs took place. Group stage results did not determine the playoff spots but were instead awarded to twelve teams based on their performances in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.
