The Championship teams are back in mid-week action. The last game of the round will see two out-of-form teams trying to stop their winless runs. Both Stoke and Oxford United were eliminated from the FA Cup around ten days ago and are now shifting their focus to the Championship. Stoke are hoping to put an end to an eight-game winless streak, while Oxford will try to snap their own six-match run without a victory.
Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this Championship tie.

In the first h2h game this season, in early November, Stoke won 3:0 on the road at Kassam Stadium. Yet, it was a lot closer game than the scoreline suggests. Looking further back, in the past ten h2h duels, each team won three games.
Regarding the number of goals, five of the past ten h2h games ended with three or more goals, while both teams scored in the same number of games (five).
Stoke team overview
Since being relegated from the Premier League in the 2017/18 season, Stoke have consistently been a mid-table team in the Championship, finishing between 14th and 18th. This year, the Potters looked absolutely great at the start, spending the first 19 rounds in the playoff spots. It seemed they could finally get involved in the promotion race. Unfortunately, since then, they really struggled and dropped to 16th place - seven points away from the playoffs.
After a 2:2 draw with Leicester, coach Mark Robins spoke to the media. He said they played well in patches but also lacked energy after the break, which eventually led to surrendering their lead. The coach said they are dealing with injuries and noted that it is a big part of their poor results. According to credible sources, the Potters could be without up to nine players due to injuries for the Oxford Utd game.

Oxford United team overview
Oxford United secured promotion to the Championship in the 2023/24 season and managed to survive in the following season, finishing 17th. This year, their goal is pretty much the same - only to survive. However, this season, that doesn't seem likely. The U's even tried to change the negative momentum with the coaching change in mid-January. After an initial few good results, they again started losing and are now 23rd with 29 points from 33 rounds. The U's are only five points away from the safe zone, but their current form is a major concern.
After a 0:0 draw with Middlesbrough, coach Matt Bloomfield spoke to the media. He was very proud of the point they earned against a strong Middlesbrough side. The coach said they executed the game plan well and stuck to their strengths, but noted M'boro pretty much dominated the second half.

Prediction
Stoke City have been terrible, having failed to win in eight consecutive games. During that stretch, the Potters scored only five goals - 0.62 per game. So, expecting a great offensive performance against anyone is simply unreal. That is even more unreal if we acknowledge Oxford Utd had back-to-back clean sheets on the road against the best teams in the league - Middlesbrough and Coventry.
Oxford United are also in awful form, currently on a six-game winless streak. During that period, they have scored only once! Looking further back, they failed to score in seven of the past nine matches, and we do not expect much from them on the offensive end.
Also, three of the past four H2H games ended with fewer than three goals. Considering the trend in the previous H2H games, both teams' poor offensive production, and all the above, an under 2.5 goals bet seems like the best option for this Championship tie.
4 Reasons why we should see fewer than three goals
- Stoke City went under 2.5 goals in 20 of 33 Championship games
- Stoke City failed to score in three of the past five games
- Oxford failed to score in the past four games
- Three of the past four H2H games ended with fewer than three goals
Main prediction Stoke City - Oxford United
Under 2.5 goals
