Although Sporting CP might not defend their title in the domestic league, Rui Borges' team have another solid season. Sporting CP are currently four points behind Porto in Liga Portugal. The bad taste in the mouth could leave a possible Champions League elimination. Sporting CP are without a victory in the last two matches, so maybe Borges' team slowed down in form at the worst possible moment. Sporting were scheduled to face Tondela in the league over the weekend, but the Portuguese Football Federation granted the Leões a postponement of the match.

Bodo/Glimt heavily beat Sporting CP in the first leg, but the head coach Rui Borges still has belief in a turnaround. He commented, "It's clearly not impossible to turn the tie around. They gave us a lot of space and I think we took the space. We found Patrick Berg. We have higher numbers when we attack in the last third, so it was a good game for us. In the second half we were too open. We gave up too many counterattacks, so I think we were struggling a little bit more in the second half."

Kjetil Knutsen has a full squad available and will likely field the same starting lineup that impressed in the first leg.
