Sporting CP vs AVS prediction 05.02.2026 | Taca de Portugal

After two consecutive league titles, Sporting CP are in a much tougher position in the current campaign, four points behind the leader, Porto. However, Sporting's form has steadied in recent weeks, giving the squad renewed belief that they can still meet their objectives. They won the last five matches across all competitions. In the most recent outing, Rui Borges' team won 2-1 at home against Nacional. The hosts had much more problems than anyone could expected, but they still picked up another valuable victory. 

Sporting CP haven't active in the transfer market since their previous match. The only move since the game against Nacional was offloading young winger Alisson Santos on loan to Napoli. Santos appeared in 18 Liga Portugal matches this season, but always as a substitute. 

Sporting CP have had some injury problems. Zeno Debast, Geovany Quenda, Fotis Ioannidis, and Salvador Blopa are unavailable for the cup quarterfinal on Thursday night. 

After avoiding relegation from Liga Portugal last season, AVS' goal remained the same. Still, the result will likely be completely different, as Joao Henriques' team collected only five points after 20 league rounds and will need a miracle to survive in the competition. AVS are without a victory in the last six matches. In the previous game, Henriques' team lost 4-0 at home against Braga. The guests dominated throughout the match, so it is no wonder AVS again remained empty-handed. 

AVS tried to improve their team late in the winter transfer window. They added Andre Green (who came from Panserraikos), Antoine Baroan (Rapid Bucuresti), and Mateus Pivo (Brusque) on Monday. It is a big question whether those three players are good enough to help AVS, but they will at least provide some depth. 

AVS should have a near full squad for the cup quarterfinal, with Guillem Molina the only player unavailable.
