The Champions League kicks off this week, and on Wednesday evening the Czech and Norwegian champions, Slavia Prague and Bodø/Glimt, will meet at Prague's Fortuna Arena. With bookmakers rating both sides among the competition's weaker teams, their head-to-head clashes could prove decisive for their hopes of advancing to the knockout phase.

Slavia Praha

Slavia Prague team overview

Slavia Prague have been either the best or the second-best team in the Czech Republic for almost a decade now. Last year, they managed to win the title, their eighth ever in the 133-year-old history.

This year, the popular Red and Whites started the domestic league absolutely great, winning 20 points in the first eight rounds, and are entering the Champions League opener in great momentum. Last year, their only win in eight CL games was in the first game, when they secured a 2:0 win over Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria.

In the previous game vs Karvina, two crucial players (Jan Boril and Igoh Ogbu) missed the match due to health problems. For now, there isn't an official statement about their status, but there are speculations that they will both miss the game.

Bodo/Glimt

Bodo/Glimt team overview

Just like Slavia Prague, Bodo/Glimt have been a top-two team in the country in recent years. Last year, they won the title, their fourth in the past five years. Due to a different football calendar from most European countries, Bodo/Glimt have already played a significant number of games this season. For now, they look like the best team in Norway as they sit in the top spot with 48 points in 21 rounds and an incredible +39 goal difference.

Besides their good performance in the domestic league, they thoroughly outplayed Sturm Graz in the CL Qualifiers, beating them 6:2 on aggregate.

After a massive 7:1 win over Kristiansund in the previous game, coach Kjetil Knutsen spoke to the media. He praised his players but also said there are room for improvement despite winning by a large margin. The coach also said he believes they weren't as good as the scoreline represents, especially in the first half.

Prediction

Slavia Prague have been absolutely amazing offensively this season, scoring a total of 18 goals in eight rounds - 2.25 per game. More importantly for our bet, they were consistent and scored at least one goal in all eight games thus far. Also, a good thing for this bet is the fact that they struggled to keep a clean sheet in recent matches, allowing a goal in four consecutive games.

Bodo/Glimt also did a fantastic job offensively this season, scoring at least a goal in 20 consecutive games. And the last one was their best offensive display as they managed to score seven times against Kristiansund! But defensively, similarly to Slavia Prague, Bodo/Glimt haven't had a clean sheet in the last three games. Moreover, away from home, both teams scored in four out of the previous five of Bodo/Glimt's games across the competitions - 80%.

Considering all the above, but especially their excellent offensive displays, we expect an exciting game with both teams scoring.

4 Reasons why both teams should score

  1. Slavia Prague scored at least one goal in all eight games this season
  2. Bodo/Glimt scored in 20 consecutive games across the competitions
  3. Both teams scored in the last four of Slavia's games
  4. We saw both teams scoring in the last three of Bodo/Glimt's games
