- Competition: Championship, Playoff Semi-Finals, 2nd Leg
- Date: Monday, 12th May, 2025
- Kickoff: 20:00 UK / 21:00 CEST
- Venue: Bramall Lane (Sheffield)
After a comfortable 3:0 win for Sheffield United, the Blades will try to finish the job against Bristol City at Bramall Lane and advance to the Championship Playoffs Finals at Wembley.
Sheffield United have constantly moved between the Premier League and the Championship in recent years. This year, they are trying to secure an instant return after suffering relegation last year. While the Blades hoped for a direct promotion, the first two teams, Leeds and Burnley, were simply too good, winning 100 points each. Sheffield United eventually finished third, 10 points behind those two teams. After the first leg in the Semi-Finals, they are in a superb position to secure the Finals, and most bookies offer odds of 1.01 for the Blades to secure the Finals.
Bristol City, are playing their tenth consecutive season in the Championship. In recent seasons, they constantly improved their results but still failed to make it to the playoffs every time. This year, they finally made it to the playoffs, but it seems that will be their maximum after a poor performance in the first leg. One of the main reasons for their collapse was a red card in the stoppage time in the first half. Now, their chances of reaching the Finals are minimal, and if they were somehow to overcome a three-goal deficit, that would be one of the biggest comebacks in the Championship Playoffs.
Sheffield United vs Bristol City pick: Sheffield United to win
We believe that Bristol City blew their chance after that red card in the first leg because they haven't performed well away from home in recent matches. In the last 15 road games, they won just once! They have generally been in bad form lately, winning just one point in the last four matches while allowing 12 goals - three per game.
On the other hand, Sheffield United are in good form, with a 3-1-1 record in the previous five matches. That loss was a tight one (2:1) on the road against possibly the best team in the league, Burnley. So, we can definitely give them a pass on that one.
Now, in this second leg, Bristol City will have to open up from the start, and that could easily backfire on them.
In the previous h2h games, we could see Sheffield United dominated, winning six times in the last eight games, while the remaining two matches ended as draws. Considering the first leg, the trend in the previous h2h games, and Bristol's poor form and road record, we firmly believe the Blades will secure another comfortable win.
