Scottish Premiership 25/26 Betting Preview

The Scottish Premiership is the highest level of professional football in Scotland and was established in 2013 following the merger of the Scottish Premier League (SPL) and the Scottish Football League. The division comprises 12 teams, with each side playing 38 times throughout the regular campaign, a total of 228 fixtures. The 2025-26 campaign gets underway on August 2nd, 2025 and will conclude on May 17th, 2026.

It’s worth noting that the division splits into two sections of six teams after 33 games, with the top six sides battling it out for the European spots and the remaining teams fighting to avoid relegation to the second tier. Make sure you follow our Scottish Premiership predictions throughout the 2025-26 season, enabling you to follow every single kick of the Scottish top flight.

Who will win the Scottish Premier League title in the 25/26 season?

The Old Firm teams continue to dominate at the top of the table, and once again, the bookmakers are expecting Celtic to clinch the title. It’s tough to make a case against Brendan Rodgers’ side, who have the resources to juggle domestic and European commitments. The Scottish Premiership odds are suggesting that the Bhoys should make light work of this division at around 2/5 in the pre-season betting market.

It’s been a summer of change at Ibrox with Rangers choosing Russell Martin as their new manager. The former Southampton boss has plenty of admirers; however, his possession-heavy style of play can be fairly predictable and tends to look slow and awkward if things don’t go to plan. Nevertheless, he’s made some eye-catching signings with Joe Rothwell, Thelo Asgaard, and Max Aarons coming through the door. The squad looks a bit bloated, and there are more changes expected between now and the end of the transfer window.

Realistically, it’s a straight shoot-out between these two Glasgow giants. Celtic have the continuity and therefore are expected to secure yet another title.

Scottish Premiership winner prediction: Celtic

Premiership Top 2 prediction: who will qualify for the Champions League?

This market is likely to be contested between the Old Firm sides, with Celtic and Rangers expected to occupy the top two spots. Last season, there was a 13-point gap between the top two and the rest of the division and a similar distance is expected in 2025-26.

Both sides will be required to juggle their European commitments alongside domestic football; however, they have plenty of resources, and both managers will be fully aware of the requirement for a well-stocked squad with plenty of competition across all positions.

This is the first time that Russell Martin will be required to combine European and domestic football, and it’ll be interesting to see how his unique style of play translates to the potentially hectic schedule. Nevertheless, they should have enough quality to finish above Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs.

Top 2 Prediction: Celtic, Rangers

Who will qualify for the Europa League from the Scottish League?

Hearts collected the most points across the last five matches of the 2024-25 campaign, and they are expected to start strongly. The appointment of Derek McInnes could prove to be a masterstroke, and they’ve added some interesting players to their squad this summer, including Claudio Braga.

Hibs are also in many people's Scottish Premiership table predictions to rival Hearts for third place. Their season begins early with the European action getting underway at the end of July, and David Gray will need to manage his squad carefully to keep players fit.

Aberdeen endured their ups and downs last season, and Jimmy Thelin’s side will need to avoid too many negative streaks to stay in contention for the third spot.

Third place prediction: Hearts

Which Scottish Premiership team goes to the Conference League?

Once again, this spot is likely to go to one of: Hearts, Hibs or Aberdeen. According to the pre-season betting odds, there is a small chance of Dundee United and St. Mirren gatecrashing the top four this season, with the latter going unbeaten in each of their last six games at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Aberdeen enjoyed success in the Scottish Cup last season, and that will give them a platform to build on this season. Jimmy Thelin has proven himself to be tactically astute, and he should be able to guide the Dons to fourth spot. They’ve got a few players to come back from injury, and with more additions expected, they are likely to sneak into the Conference League spot ahead of Hibs.

Scottish Premiership relegation prediction 25/26

Newly promoted duo Falkirk and Livingston are predictably amongst the favourites for the drop this season. Livi were play-off winners, relegating Ross County in the process and were incredibly tough to score against last season. They may not be able to rely on defensive solidity in the top tier; however, they have added some experienced heads in the shape of Graham Carey and Stevie May. Falkirk’s momentum is extraordinary, and there has been very little upheaval in their playing squad this summer.

Dundee FC and Motherwell are the two established sides who will be glancing over their shoulders this season; however, both should have just enough to survive.

William Hill Premiership format: how it works

Ahead of making any SPL predictions, it’s important to have a clear understanding of the format.

The William Hill Scottish Premiership features 12 teams, all of whom will play 38 games during the regular season. After 33 games, the league will split into two halves: the Championship Group and the Relegation Group.

The winners will qualify for the Champions League play-offs, with the second-place finishers entering the UCL play-off round, which takes place at the end of August.

Third place will enter the Europa League at the second qualifying round, and the team directly behind them in fourth will bag a place in the second qualifying round of the Conference League.

At the other end of the table, the team that finishes bottom will be automatically relegated to the Scottish Championship. The second-bottom side will compete in the Premiership play-off, which will take place at the end of the season. They will play a two-legged contest against the second-placed finishers in the Championship. If they are victorious, they will retain their place in the top tier. If they are unsuccessful, the two teams will swap places.

How to make reliable Scottish Premier League predictions?

To make successful SPFL predictions, you need to understand the nuances of this unique competition. We’ve taken a look at some of the factors which need to be considered before attempting to make a Scottish Premiership prediction.

  • Weather conditions: The climate can be fairly unrelenting in Scotland, particularly during the winter months. Inclement conditions will inevitably play a part in the outcome of some games, with driving rain and swirling winds likely to result in a low-scoring and low-quality match, with the players struggling to get the ball under control. Furthermore, some teams may face a backlog of fixtures during the second half of the season as a consequence of postponements, and this should always be factored into your predictions.
  • European schedule: Some teams, particularly those who are competing in the Europa League and Conference League, may struggle to juggle the hectic schedule, particularly if a tricky domestic fixture is pencilled in for just 72 hours after an arduous European fixture, which requires substantial travel. Always consider how a midweek trip to Azerbaijan, Georgia or Turkey is likely to affect an SPFL outfit.
  • New manager bounce: Teams aren’t averse to making mid-season managerial switches, and this should always be factored into your considerations. A change of voice in the dugout may produce a sudden uplift in form.
  • January transfer window: Star players may suddenly depart once the January transfer window opens, resulting in a sudden downturn in results. Inversely, the addition of a player in a problem position may result in everything clicking into place.
