Portsmouth vs QPR prediction 26.12.2025 | Championship

Since returning to the Championship in 2024, Portsmouth have regularly been part of the relegation dogfight. After almost half of the season in the current campaign, Pompey are only two points above the drop zone. Portsmouth struggled recently with only four points in the last five rounds. In the most recent outing, they played 1-1 on the road against Derby. Although the guests didn't create too much during the game, they defended well and left Pride Park with one point. 

Although Portsmouth have won only four points in the last five matches, the head coach John Mousinho is optimistic about the upcoming clash against QPR. He said that they have seen some promising signs over the previous few weeks and that he will try to build on that in the coming matches. 

Portsmouth's Josh Murphy had to leave the pitch due to injury in the previous league round and is questionable for Friday's tie. If Murpthy can't play, he will join already unavailable Josh Knight, Thomas Waddingham, Conor Shaughnessy, Connor Ogilvie, Jacob Farrell, and Florian Bianchini. 

The current season could be the best for QPR in the 21st century. Julien Stephan's team still seems more like a mid-table team, but after their recent good run, QPR are only one point behind the promotion zone. The Hoops have won three of the last four matches. In the previous game, Stephan's team won 4-1 at home against Leicester. The home side dominated throughout the match, and their victory never came in question.

QPR's head coach, Julien Stephan, was especially thrilled with how his team played in the first half against Leicester. After the game, he commented, "It was an outstanding first half. The way they played, how they came onto the pitch, how they moved together – with and without the ball – it's never perfect, but it was very close to perfection."

QPR have some problems with missing players, too. They will be without Ilias Chair, Rayan Kolli, Ziyad Larkeche, Harvey Vale, Joe Walsh, and Tylon Smith on Boxing Day against Portsmouth.

Portsmouth scored only five goals in the last five matches at Fratton Park. On the other hand, QPR scored only three in the previous five games away from home. Also, seven of the last nine H2H matches between these teams went under 2.5 goals. We shouldn't expect more than two goals on Friday afternoon.
