Newcastle returns to Premier League business on Saturday after a comfortable 3:2 midweek win against Qarabag secured their safe progression to the UCL knockout phase. After a dominant 6:1 win in Azerbaijan, Eddie Howe's side eventually ran out 9:3 aggregate winners.

While impressive in their Europe the Magpies have struggled to maintain consistency in performance this season, particularly in the Premier League. Newcastle lost four of their last five EPL matches, and now sit 11th in the division, one point behind Everton. 

While usually considered a solid choice in home fixtures, Howe's side lost both of their last two league games at St James' Park. The hosts have now failed to win six of 13 home PL games this season.

Head coach Howe is unable to call on several first-team players this weekend. Fabian Schär, Valentino Livramento, Emil Krafth, Bruno Guimarães and Jacob Ramsey are all ruled out for this fixture, while Lewis Miley remains a doubt.

Everton make the trip to St James' Park looking to bounce back from a 1:0 home defeat against Manchester United. In a match of few clear-cut opportunities, Benjamin Seskó's late goal ensured a narrow defeat for David Moyes's side. 

While the Toffees have lost their last two home PL matches, on the road, Everton have proven a tough side to beat this season. Moyes's men are unbeaten in eight of their last nine away EPL fixtures, while they have lost only four of 13 PL matches on their travels this season. 

Impressively, Everton have picked up away wins at Aston Villa, Brighton and Nottingham Forest since the end of December. Since the start of this season, the Toffees have secured an impressive tally of 21 points on their travels. By comparison, Newcastle picked up just 23 points from the same amount of home fixtures.

Head coach Moyes has four confirmed absentees this week. Jack Grealish, Carlos Alcaraz and Mark Travers are ruled out, while Jake O’Brien is suspended.
