A crucial fixture in the fight to avoid relegation sees Leganes look to break an eight-game winless run when they take on Espanyol this weekend. 

The home side returns to action after a hard-fought 2:2 draw against Sevilla last weekend. Javi Hernández's late goal rescued a potentially vital point for Borja Jiménez's side in an entertaining contest against their fellow relegation strugglers. 

Los Pepineros now find themselves inside the drop zone after failing to win any of their last eight La Liga fixtures. Leganes remain 19th in the division, now four points short of safety with just four games remaining. 

Low-scoring outcomes have been frequent in the hosts' recent league outings. Four of their five most recent La Liga games finished with under 2.5 goals scored, while six of their last eight games at the Estádio Municipal de Butarque finished with the same outcome. 

Espanyol come into Sunday's contest now winless in three league games after a 2:1 home reversal against Real Betis last weekend. Having led for much of the 90 minutes, late goals from Giovanni Lo Celso and Antony secured the points for the away side. 

Placed 14th in the division, Los Periquitos look set for a mid-table finish. Seven points above the drop zone, but only five points behind eighth-placed Rayo, Espanyol are unlikely to be dragged into a relegation battle or mount a serious push for European qualification in the final weeks of the campaign. 

A fairly miserable away record has seen the Barcelona-based side fail to win 14 of 17 away La Liga matches this season, including a 1:0 defeat at Villarreal two weeks ago. 

Recent encounters between these sides suggest a strong likelihood for another tight La Liga contest this weekend. All but one of their last nine meetings finished with under 2.5 goals scored, and a similar outcome seems likely this weekend. 

Under 2.5 goals is my best bet, with the spoils potentially shared at Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
