Hertha were relegated from the Bundesliga in the 2022/23 season, ending their tenth consecutive season in the top flight. Unfortunately, they haven't been great in the following two seasons, finishing ninth and 11th. This season, after a bad start, the team from Berlin started playing a lot better and looks like a team that could get involved in the promotion battle. After winning five of the last six league games, they are now in 8th place with 20 points - just three away from the promotion playoff. 

In the previous game against Kaiserlautern, midfielder Kennet Eichhorn received a fifth yellow card and will serve his one-game suspension. Still, he hasn't been too great in previous games, and his absence might actually be a good thing for the team. 

Braunschweig secured promotion from 3. Liga in the 2021/22 season and were constantly among the relegation candidates in the following three seasons in the Bundesliga 2. They finished 15th (twice) and 16th once while winning between 35 and 38 points. Still, they managed to survive somehow. This year, "The Lions" are again among the teams battling to survive. After 12 rounds, they sit in 16th place with only 10 points in 12 rounds. However, they are still just one point away from the safe zone and need to turn their negative momentum around, considering they have lost three in a row and seven of the last eight.

Striker Erencan Yardimci will serve the third out of his three-game suspension. That is a significant absence for the Lions, as the 23-year-old striker is the team's best goalscorer despite missing the last two games due to the suspension.
