In the previous two h2h games last season, Hertha Berlin won both games - 5:1 on the road and 3:1 at Olympiastadion Berlin. Looking further back, in the past ten h2h games, Hertha were much better, winning seven games, while Braunschweig only won twice (once after penalties).

Regarding the number of goals, eight of the last ten h2h games ended with three or more goals, while both teams scored in the same number of games (eight).

Hertha Berlin team overview

Hertha were relegated from the Bundesliga in the 2022/23 season, ending their tenth consecutive season in the top flight. Unfortunately, they haven't been great in the following two seasons, finishing ninth and 11th. This season, after a bad start, the team from Berlin started playing a lot better and looks like a team that could get involved in the promotion battle. After winning five of the last six league games, they are now in 8th place with 20 points - just three away from the promotion playoff.

In the previous game against Kaiserlautern, midfielder Kennet Eichhorn received a fifth yellow card and will serve his one-game suspension. Still, he hasn't been too great in previous games, and his absence might actually be a good thing for the team.

Braunschweig team overview

Braunschweig secured promotion from 3. Liga in the 2021/22 season and were constantly among the relegation candidates in the following three seasons in the Bundesliga 2. They finished 15th (twice) and 16th once while winning between 35 and 38 points. Still, they managed to survive somehow. This year, "The Lions" are again among the teams battling to survive. After 12 rounds, they sit in 16th place with only 10 points in 12 rounds. However, they are still just one point away from the safe zone and need to turn their negative momentum around, considering they have lost three in a row and seven of the last eight.

Striker Erencan Yardimci will serve the third out of his three-game suspension. That is a significant absence for the Lions, as the 23-year-old striker is the team's best goalscorer despite missing the last two games due to the suspension.

Prediction

Hertha Berlin are in fantastic form, having won four in a row across the competitions and six of the last seven. Some of those were really impressive, as they beat teams higher than them in the league table (Elversberg and Kaiserslautern). Also, at home, they were fantastic throughout the season, losing just once in seven games across the competitions.

On the other hand, Braunschweig were atrocious, losing three straight. They have also lost seven of the last eight in the league, winning only against Dusseldorf - one of the worst teams this season. Still, even in that win, they weren't impressive and could have easily lost the match.

Hertha won both h2h games last season and also won four of the last five games. Considering the trend in the previous h2h games and the difference in form, we expect a fairly easy win for the hosts.

3 Reasons why Hertha Berlin should win

  1. Hertha Berlin won four in a row and six of the past seven games
  2. Braunschweig lost three in a row
  3. Hertha Berlin won four of the last five h2h games
