- Competition: World Cup Qualifiers
- Date: Monday, 8th September, 2025
- Kickoff: 19:45 UK / 20:45 CEST
- Venue: Europa point stadium (Gibraltar)
In the fifth round of the World Cup Qualifiers, two of the bottom teams in Group L, Gibraltar and Faroe Islands, will face off at Europa Point Stadium in Gibraltar. While no one expects these teams to be among the teams that have a chance to qualify for the World Cup, these games mean a lot because they are rare opportunities to secure victories in official competitions.

These teams met just once in the official game, only about three months ago in the World Cup Qualifiers as well. That time, the Faroe Islands won 2:1 at home while completely dominating the match.
In total, these teams met four times. Faroe Islands won twice, and Gibraltar won once. Regarding the number of goals, only one match ended with fewer than three goals.
Gibraltar team overview
Gibraltar are #199 on the FIFA World Ranking List and 53rd in Europe, just above San Marino and Liechtenstein. They are a team that rarely wins or even scores goals in these types of competitions. For example, in the previous EURO Qualifiers, they lost all eight games with a 0:41 goal difference, and in the last WC Qualifiers, they lost all ten games with a 4:43 goal difference.
In these qualifiers, Gibraltar lost all four games thus far, but the game vs Faroe Islands at home is the opportunity to maybe grab a point, or even a victory.
After a 1:0 loss to Albania in the friendly match just days ago, coach Scott Wiseman spoke to the media. He did not speak about the game itself but rather said they are ready for the Faroe Islands and that their focus is solely on that match. The coach also urged everyone to support them in the WC Qualifiers match on Monday.

Faroe Islands team overview
Faroe Islands are #141 on the FIFA World Ranking List and #48 in Europe, out of 55 teams. They, expectedly, never reached any major competition, but their progress as a team is visible through the UEFA Nations League. There, they moved from League D to C and were pretty solid there last year, winning six points in six rounds in a group with North Macedonia, Armenia, and Latvia.
In these Qualifiers, Faroe Islands won three points (2:1 win over Gibraltar) in four matches. However, even in their losses, they did OK, like the last one vs Croatia (1:0).

Prediction
Gibraltar are a team that rarely scores goals. Thus far, they have only scored twice in four rounds - 0.5 per game. Defensively, they had rough games, but only away from home. At home, they rarely collapse, especially against weak teams. Therefore, we saw fewer than three goals in six of the last ten home games across the competitions - 60%.
Faroe Islands mainly played low-scoring games recently, as they were under 2.5 goals in nine out of 12 games - 75% Additionally, they have problems scoring away from home, as they did only once in the last four matches, and haven't had too challenging a schedule.
Considering all the above, an under 2.5 goals bet seems like the best option for this World Cup Qualifiers tie.
3 Reasons why we should see fewer than three goals
- Gibraltar scored two goals in the first four games in the WC Qualifiers
- Gibraltar went under 2.5 goals in six of the last ten home games across the competitions
- The Faroe Islands scored one goal in the last four road games
Main prediction -
Under 2.5 goals
