Bookmakers price up a wide range of markets ahead of any major tournament, so if you’re betting on the Club World Cup this summer, you’ll have plenty of options. We’ve picked out some of the key markets available with the best football betting sites and looked at the best way to approach them.
Outright Winner
Without a doubt, this is the most popular of the pre-tournament betting markets. Bettors should look for a team they believe will go all the way by lifting the trophy at the end of the competition. If you think you’ve found a potential outsider, most betting sites will offer each-way terms at 1/2 of the odds, meaning you will still be paid out if your team doesn’t triumph, but still reaches the final.
Bookmakers will favour the most successful teams with the biggest resources, so it isn’t surprising to see Real Madrid and Manchester City dominating this market.
Top Goalscorer
The top goalscorer market is another popular option for bettors who are trying to predict the most prolific player of the tournament. Although stars like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are always likely to be positioned at the top of this betting market, our experts advise selecting players who are likely to play every single game or those who are likely to propel their side into the latter stages of the competition. More games and more minutes on the pitch will give them a greater chance of racking up the goals.
Group Winners
Betting on group winners tends to be popular with bettors who enjoy assembling accumulators and there are always plenty of short-priced favourites when it comes to these markets. Picking the winner of each section isn’t always straightforward and at the Club World Cup, there are a few evenly matched and competitive groups which are trickier to predict. This is where bettors are likely to find the value.
To Reach the… / Stage of Elimination
Many bookmakers enable bettors to predict the exact stage at which a team is eliminated from the competition. You may also be able to bet on a team to reach the last 16 or perhaps even make it to the quarter-finals. Our experts recommend making a list of teams that you’re expecting to underperform or overperform. Once complete, you can study the latest odds to see if you can extract any value.
The bookmakers will always favour the European sides in a competition such as the Club World Cup as these teams tend to have the greatest resources and a far higher calibre of players. Nevertheless, the availability of star performers, motivation and the schedule are other factors to consider.
If you’re betting on the Club World Cup, depending on your chosen betting site, you are likely to find Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester City at the top of the outright market. Real Madrid have a formidable record when it comes to tournament football and have been hugely successful in the Champions League, whereas Luis Enrique’s PSG produced a remarkably dominant display in the UCL final. Man City are one of the richest clubs in the world and have an exceptionally strong squad.
Bayern Munich are fourth in the Club World Cup betting odds and although they dominated domestically, they failed to ignite in Europe. Inter Milan reached the Champions League final and are just ahead of Chelsea in the betting with the Blues fresh from winning the UEFA Conference League.

The expanded tournament will feature 32 teams from across six different confederations. They have been divided into eight groups, with the two highest-placed sides progressing to the last 16. Our experts have compiled a helpful guide to each section, complete with a Club World Cup betting prediction for each group.
Group A looks fairly open and all four teams will fancy their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages. As hosts of the opening fixture, Inter Miami will be expected to start positively and with Lionel Messi capable of creating magic, they should make it through. FC Porto were a little inconsistent but finished the season strongly to finish third in the Portuguese top flight. As the sole European representative in this section, they will be expected to qualify. Al Ahly shouldn’t be underestimated after going unbeaten for the entire campaign in the Egyptian Premier League whereas Palmeiras have hit the buffers following a positive start.
Prediction: In our opinion, Inter Miami will finish top with FC Porto sneaking through at the expense of Al Ahly. The Egyptians will give an excellent account of themselves.
Group B is extremely competitive with Champions League winners PSG being drawn alongside Atletico Madrid. The Parisiens are huge favourites to progress and they look likely to cruise through to the latter stages. Atleti are always tenacious and willing to battle and they have several players including Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth who come off the back of sensational seasons. Seattle Sounders can enjoy some home comforts and with the exception of a recent defeat to Minnesota United, they have been in good form. Botafogo also possess strong form and should be an entertaining side to watch.
Prediction: It would be foolish to back against PSG finishing top of Group B and they should be joined by Atletico Madrid who are likely to be too strong for their opponents.
Two more European heavyweights are drawn alongside one another in Group C with Bayern Munich and Benfica both featuring regularly in the UEFA Champions League. Boca Juniors are an exciting addition and are always popular with the neutrals. Auckland City have very few non-Kiwi players in their squad and are unlikely to take a single point during the group stage.
Prediction: In our opinion, Benfica will finish top of Group C as they always seem to enjoy tournament football. Bayern and Boca will fight it out for second place, with the Argentinian side expected to spring a surprise and sneak through at the Bundesliga side's expense.
Group D looks interesting with just one European side drawn alongside Brazilian, Tunisian and US opposition. Although Los Angeles’ Olivier Giroud will be looking to dump his former employers out of the tournament, Chelsea should have enough quality to progress, even if they opt to heavily rotate. Flamengo will be tough opponents for anyone and they have made a fantastic start to the season, conceding just four goals in their opening 11 matches. Los Angeles FC will enjoy the familiarity of playing in the US and have plenty of firepower whereas Esperance Tunis are likely to be dogged, yet unadventurous.
Prediction: We expect the Londoners to progress with the minimum of fuss and they should be followed by in-form Flamengo, who should be good enough to secure second place in this section.
Inter Milan were humbled in the Champions League final at the end of May and they must regain their composure and confidence ahead of this competition. They will also be working under a new coach with Christian Chivu set to be appointed as Simone Inzaghi’s successor. That adds plenty of uncertainty to their quest to finish top of the group. River Plate are a legendary club and were predictably strong during the first phase of the Argentinian Primera Division, conceding just nine times in 16 matches. Urawa Red Diamonds, representing Japan, have won just two of their last seven and this may come as an unwelcome distraction whereas Monterrey were plagued by inconsistencies towards the end of the season.
Prediction: Inter should be strong enough to make it through to the knock-out rounds, however, they may be pipped by River Plate, who could unexpectedly top Group E.
Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense are expected to dominate this section and we don’t expect too many surprises in Group F. Dortmund are full of goals with Seirhou Guirassy likely to be heavily involved whereas Fluminense are in decent form having won back-to-back games in Brazilian Serie A. They aren’t particularly high-scoring, but they tend to keep things tight and have a knack for scoring late goals. Ulsan have been very inconsistent and sit six points off top spot in the Korean K-League whereas Mamelodi Sundowns could be awkward opponents, but aren’t expected to challenge.
Prediction: Backing Dortmund and Fluminense in a straight forecast makes perfect sense in Group F.
Manchester City ranks amongst the tournament favourites and will be expected to progress without too many complications. Pep’s men have been drawn alongside Juventus, who were guided to fourth spot in Serie A by Igor Tudor. The Old Lady are always sturdy opposition and will be tough to break down. They also possess a smattering of quality in the final third. Wydad are a bit of a wildcard, whereas Al Ain, representing the UAE, are expected to be hugely entertaining, but their defence can be far too leaky and they could rack up a significantly damaging goal difference.
Prediction: Rocket science isn’t required here, Manchester City will win the group with Juventus finishing a clear second.
With 15 Champions League titles under their belts, Real Madrid tend to thrive when it comes to knock-out football and they should be too strong for their Group H opponents. The appointment of Xavi Alonso adds an extra layer of intrigue with many players looking to impress their new boss. Salzburg turned things around following a poor start to the domestic season, although they tend to keep very few clean sheets. Al Hilal will be led by former Inter manager Simone Inzaghi, who was appointed at the beginning of June. The club have plenty of ambition and are reportedly close to signing Victor Omishen, however, they will have to work hard to qualify from this section. Pachuca came off the back of a below-par season in Liga MX.
Prediction: Real Madrid should ease to the top of this section and they will be followed by Al-Hilal, who will pip Salzburg to second place.
