FC Copenhagen vs Basel prediction 27.08.2025 | Champions League qualification

FC Copenhagen didn't have any problems reaching the Champions League qualifications playoff round as they dominated against Drita and Malmo FF. The team from Parken Stadium is playing well in the Danish Superliga, too, as they are at the top of the standings with one point more than Brondby. One of the worst games in the season, FC Copenhagen had for the weekend, when they played only 1-1 at home against Odense. However, it is essential to mention that the head coach, Jacob Neestrup, rested a few regular starters in that match. 

FC Copenhagen have some problems with missing players ahead of the second leg against Basel. They will be without Mohamed Achouri, Thomas Delaney, and Oliver Hojer on Wednesday night. 

Basel skipped all Champions League qualification rounds this season before the matchup against FC Copenhagen. In the Swiss national league, Basel wasn't at its best in the opening four rounds, as they collected only six points so far and are six points behind the league leader, Thun. Basel's Xherdan Shaqiri sparked some controversy after the game when he criticized the head coach, Luca Magnin. The veteran player said, "We knew the defender already had a yellow card. Perhaps we should have reacted differently beforehand, and perhaps even taken him off. We knew there was a risk of a yellow-red card because there were so many fouls today. That can't happen to us."

Basel's Jonas Adjetey got a red card in the previous game and will not play on Wednesday night at Parken Stadium. Instead of suspended Adjetey, we should expect Nicolas Vouilloz to fill the gap in the starting lineup. Also, Basel will be without injured Finn van Breemen, Benie Traore, and Kevin Ruegg.
