Deportivo La Guaira come into their second-ever Copa Libertadores campaign in solid form after a 1:1 draw in a domestic fixture against Carabobo extended their unbeaten run to ten matches.

Junior Paredes opened the scoring but Hector Bidoglio’s side were forced to settle for a point after Erik Ramirez’s second-half leveller for the visitors. 

A strong but unspectacular run of form sees the hosts unbeaten since the start of their season in February. La Guaira won five and drew five of their first ten fixtures. 

Low-scoring outcomes have been a recurring theme for the Venezuelans. Only nine goals were scored in their last eight matches. All eight games finished with less than three goals scored.

Head coach Bidoglio is unlikely to make too many changes from the side that picked up a draw against Carabobo. La Guaira have no reported injury issues this week. 

Fluminense turn their attention to the Copa Libertadores after a 1:1 draw in the Brasileirão Betano against Coritiba on Sunday. A late goal from John Kennedy secured a share of the spoils at Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira.

The Brazilians have enjoyed a strong run of form domestically, securing four wins while losing just one of their last six matches. However, recent road games have been less impressive, with two defeats and just one win recorded in four previous away fixtures.

Away from home, low-scoring outcomes have been relatively frequent. Five of their seven previous away encounters finished with two or fewer goals scored.

Head coach Luis Zubeldia has three players missing for the trip to Venezuela. Nonato is sidelined with a hamstring injury, while Facundo Bernal is ruled out with a cruciate ligament issue.

Matheus Reis is another absentee in attack.
