The World Cup Qualifiers in Europe are about to kick off, and one of the highlight matches in the opening round will see Denmark host Scotland at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. These teams last met in similar circumstances as they faced off in the World Cup Qualifiers in 2021. That time, both teams won their home games 2:0. Looking further back, in the 21st century, these teams met a total of six times, with each team winning three times.
When it comes to the number of goals, we almost exclusively saw low-scoring games, with five of the last six ending with fewer than three goals. Also, both teams scored just once in those six games - 17%.
Denmark team overview
The Denmark national team has been a regular presence at the World Cup, qualifying for the last two editions and five of the last seven. They also performed well at the previous two European Championships, reaching the semifinals once and the round of 16 in the other. Ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers, the Red and Whites showed solid form in the UEFA Nations League A, advancing from their group before falling to Portugal in the playoffs with a 5:3 aggregate defeat.
The Danish legend, Christian Eriksen, was not called for the World Cup Qualifiers as coach Brian Riemer excluded him from the squad because he is still without a club. The 33-year-old midfielder isn't officially retired from the NT, and we might see him back in the squad in the next rounds of the WC Qualifiers. Eriksen is the Danish all-time leader in appearances (144) and the third-best goalscorer with 46 goals, only behind Poul Nielsen and Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Scotland team overview
Scotland are searching for their first World Cup appearance since 1998, when they finished the journey in the group stage. In the Euro, they managed to qualify for the past two tournaments, but also finished their campaign in the group phase. Before the WC Qualifiers, the Scots failed to keep themselves in the UEFA Nations League A, finishing third in Group 1, and then lost to Greece in the Playout (3:1 aggregate).
Before the start of the Qualifiers, Scotland's Ryan Christie spoke about their chances. He said they are desperate to be in North America next Summer. The midfielder said that securing the World Cup would be something to be proud of when it comes to his career achievements.

Prediction
Denmark had their ups and downs in the previous years, but most of their poor results came away from home. In Denmark, the Red and Whites won eight out of nine matches while beating excellent teams like Portugal, Serbia, Switzerland, Norway, and Sweden.
Meanwhile, Scotland lost two of the last three games, while winning only against poor Liechtenstein. They are also traditionally a team that plays a lot better at home, and that alone is a massive factor in this match.
Considering all the above and the fact that these teams mostly won home games in recent h2h matchups, we believe Denmark should be a lot closer to winning the match.
3 Reasons why Denmark should win
- Denmark won eight out of nine home games
- Scotland lost two of the last three matches
- Denmark won the previous two h2h games in Denmark
