Italian top-flight action takes place on Sunday afternoon as relegation-threatened Cremonese take on Bologna.

Bologna make the trip to the Stadio Giovanni Zini in high spirits after a decent run of form before the international break, while Cremonese look to build on a much-needed win against Parma two weeks ago.

Recent meetings between these sides have been limited, with Cremonese securing a surprise away win in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Cremonese team overview

Cremonese return to Serie A action after a two-week break looking to build on a vital 2-0 away win at Parma. Second-half goals from Youssef Maleh and Jari Vandeputte secured a first win of the year for Marco Giampaolo’s side.

Before that important road win last month, Cremonese had failed to win each of 15 Serie A games since last December. The hosts had picked up only one point from their eight most recent league fixtures.

A lack of quality in the final third has been a major issue for Giampaolo’s men. Cremonese have failed to score in eight of their last 11 matches and have managed just 25 goals in 30 Serie A games this season.

Despite their struggles, I Grigiorossi sit 17th in the division, outside the relegation zone on goal difference ahead of Lecce.

Head coach Giampaolo has a strong squad available this weekend. Antonio Sanabria is the only confirmed absentee for the home side.

Bologna

Bologna team overview

Bologna arrive at Stadio Giovanni Zini looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2:0 home defeat against Lazio two weeks ago. Kenneth Taylor’s second-half brace secured the points for the visiting Romans.

A strong run of form before that defeat had seen Bologna lose just one of their previous nine matches. I Rossoblu secured their place in the Europa League quarter-finals with a thrilling 4-3 win against Roma before a fatigued defeat against Lazio.

Particularly strong in recent road performances, Vincenzo Italiano’s side won five of their last six away fixtures, including four of their five previous Serie A matches on their travels.

Bologna have a few concerns ahead of this fixture. Lukasz Skorupski and Jens Odgaard are ruled out with hamstring and thigh injuries respectively.

Lorenzo De Silvestri and Tommaso Pobega are both doubts due to thigh and muscle issues.

Prediction

Bologna have picked up some decent form in recent weeks, and they should prove too strong for relegation-threatened Cremonese.

An away win is my best bet on Sunday.

Three Reasons Why We Expect Bologna to Win

  1. Cremonese lost 7 of their last 9 matches
  2. Cremonese lost 3 of their last 4 home matches
