- Competition: World Cup 2026 qualifiers
- Date: 10/09/2025
- KO: 00:30 UK / 01:30 CEST
- Venue: Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos
The Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos is the venue for a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday as Chile takes on Uruguay.
While Uruguay have already safely secured their qualification for next summer's finals, Chile come into this fixture rooted to the bottom of the section, with their hopes of a return to the World Cup already dashed.
With little to play for, a low-key encounter could be on the cards in Santiago, and with both teams struggling in respective home and away fixtures, a low-scoring encounter could be on the cards this week.

Chile and Uruguay have met on 17 occasions since 2003. Uruguay claimed eight wins, while Chile triumphed four times.
Chile team overview
Chile return to Santiago aiming to respond after suffering a third straight defeat in Brazil last week. Despite a resilient defensive effort, late strikes from Lucas Paquetá and Bruno Guimarães sealed a 3-0 win for the hosts.
La Roja’s qualifying campaign has been a disaster, with just two wins in their last 17 matches across two years. Rooted to the bottom of the group on 10 points, they find themselves well out of contention ahead of Wednesday´s final fixture.
Goalscoring woes have been the biggest issue for Nicolás Córdova’s men, who have now failed to find the net in seven of their last eight World Cup qualifiers.
Interim coach Nicolás Córdova may make some alterations to his starting XI this week, with Gonzalo Tapia pushing for inclusion after coming off the bench in Brazil. However, Chile remain unable to call on injured duo Benjamín Kuscevic and Darío Osorio.

Uruguay team overview
Uruguay head to Chile in confident form, having already booked their spot at next summer’s finals before last week’s comfortable 3-0 win against Peru. Giorgian De Arrascaeta found the net as Marcelo Bielsa’s men claimed back-to-back victories for the first time in 18 months.
La Celeste had endured a lack of winning results before recent successes over Venezuela (2-0) and Peru, failing to win ten of 11 previous internationals since September 2024.
Away form remains an issue, though, with Uruguay winning just one of eight qualifiers on the road while scoring only six goals.
Bielsa is expected to shuffle his pack this week. Ronald Araújo and Nahitan Nández return from suspension, while Darwin Núñez is available again after serving a lengthy ban. Mathías Olivera, misses out due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Prediction
Both sides already know their fate, and with that in mind, a low-scoring encounter seems likely in Santiago. I expect fewer than under 2.5 goals, with Uruguay perhaps having enough attacking quality to edge to a narrow away win.
Three Reasons Why We Expect Under 2.5 Goals
- Chile have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 7 World Cup qualifiers
- Uruguay have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 away World Cup qualifiers against Chile
- Uruguay have seen under 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 12 matches
Main prediction Chile - Uruguay
Under 2.5 goals
