Only one step left in the Europa League qualifications. On Thursday evening in Bergen, Brann will welcome AEK Larnaca. The bookies see the Norwegian team as the favorite to progress to the second most important European competition, but can the Cypriot side challenge them? Let's break down the first leg and find the best possible betting option.
Brann team overview
Brann are not as impressive as in the 2024 season, but the current year can still be very successful. They started the European journey in the Champions League qualifications but lost against Salzburg. After moving to the Europa League, they had a successful round in which they beat Hacken. In the Norwegian Eliteserien, Brann are still in the title race as they are six points behind the league leaders, Bodo/Glimt and Viking, but with one game fewer played.
After the crisis in July, Brann again found their best form. They won three of four matches in the current month, including a 2-1 victory in the round against Tromso over the weekend. That was another game in which Brann's excellent efficiency was enough for all three points. After another great win, the head coach, Freyr Alexandersson, will have a lot of confidence ahead of the duels against AEK Larnaca.
Brann have almost the full squad available ahead of the first game against AEK Larnaca. Sakarias Opsahl and Jonas Torsvik should be the only ones out for Thursday.

AEK Larnaca team overview
After two years in which AEK Larnaca failed to qualify for any European competition, they will compete in the Europa League or the Conference League this autumn (in case of losing against Brann). The Cypriot national league still hasn't started, so AEK Larnaca has only played six games in three qualification rounds in the Europa League. The toughest test on the road to the playoffs was in the first round when AEK Larnaca won after the penalty shootout against Partizan. After that, Imanol Idiakez's team won 3-2 on aggregate against Celje and 5-3 against Legia. Interestingly, AEK Larnaca failed to win in any of the three games on the road (one draw, two defeats), so Idiakez's team could be in all sorts of trouble on Thursday in Bergen.
AEK Larnaca have some problems with missing players before the matchup against Brann. Waldo Rubio, Giorgos Naoum, Marcus Rohden, and Valentin Roberge are injured and will not travel to Bergen. Also, Jeremie Gnali is suspended.

Prediction
Both teams have already secured at least a place in the Conference League, but their real ambition is to reach the Europa League, the second-tier European competition. Brann enter Thursday's clash as the favorites, yet AEK Larnaca are an experienced side that rarely go down without a fight. Both teams are scoring goals almost regularly. Brann scored in five of the last six matches in all competitions, while Imanol Idiakez's team scored in each of the previous four games. With all those trends, we should expect a tight contest with goals on both sides on Thursday evening.
4 Reasons why we should expect both teams to score in this match
- Brann scored at least one goal in five of the last six matches
- Brann conceded at least one goal in eight of the previous nine games
- AEK Larnaca scored in every one of the last four matches
