Borussia Monchengladbach return to Borussia-Park following a drab goalless draw against HSV Hamburg last weekend. In a match of few clear cut opportunities, Eugen Polanski's side held on for a point at Volksparkstadion.

A largely uninspiring run of form sees the hosts winless in six of their last eight competitive fixtures, although they did claim a dominant 4:0 win against Augsburg in their most recent home fixture. 

High-scoring outcomes have been a recurring theme at Borussia-Park in recent weeks. All but one of their BMG's last seven home fixtures finished with at least three goals scored.

Head coach Polanski has a handful of selection issues this weekend. Tim Kleindienst, Fabio Chiarodia and Marvin Friedrich are ruled out, while Kevin Diks, Nathan N'Goumou and Robin Hack are listed as doubtful.

VfB Stuttgart return to Bundesliga action after a disappointing 2–0 defeat in Rome in the Europa League on Thursday. Niccolò Pisilli scored twice as Stuttgart failed to capitalise on several goal-scoring opportunities in their loss to Roma.

Before their frustrating defeat in Italy, VFB had enjoyed a fine six game unbeaten run, picking up three wins from their last five Bundesliga matches. Stuttgart now sit fourth in the Bundesliga, six points behind second-placed Dortmund, but 13 clear of their opponents this weekend.

Recent Bundesliga games have proved high-scoring, with ten of 12 previous league fixtures finishing with a minimum of three goals scored. That outcome also occurred in all but one of nine previous meetings between these sides.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß is expected to be without five first-team players on Sunday. Dan-Axel Zagadou, Luca Jaquez, Tiago Tomás, Lazar Jovanović and Angelo Stiller are all ruled out.
