Bologna look to secure European progression on Thursday when they take on Norwegian visitors Brann in a crucial playoff fixture.

Brann make the trip to Renato Dall'Ara hoping to overturn last week's one goal defeat in Bergen while Bologna aim for a third successive victory after a narrow win against Udinese last weekend.

After a hard-fought first-leg encounter, where both sides registered an xG of less than one, another tight matchup seems likely in Italy.

Bologna and Brann will meet for the second time on Thursday. The Italians edged to a 1:0 win in Norway in their first-ever encounter last week.

Bologna team overview

Bologna come into Thursday's Europa League contest with confidence raised after three successive victories picked up in the past ten days.

Vincenzo Italiano's side claimed back-to-back road victories at Torino and Brann before a narrow 1:0 success against Udinese last weekend. The Italians had failed to win 11 of 13 previous fixtures before their recent uptick in form.

Defensive improvements have lead to several low-scoring fixtures in recent weeks. Four of Bologna's last five games finished with fewer than three goals scored, and each of their three previous home fixtures.

Head coach Italiano has three injury concerns this week. Charalampos Lykogiannis and Torbjørn Heggem are ruled out, while Juan Miranda faces a late fitness test.

Brann team overview

Brann make the trip to Italy looking to overturn last week's 1:0 reversal in Bergen. Santiago Castro's early goal proved the difference in a tight contest at Brann Stadion.

Still in the Norwegian off-season, Freyr Alexandersson's side have played just three competitive fixtures this year. Brann failed to win each of their last four Europa League games, while they were unable to score in three of those fixtures.

On the road, the Bergen-based side slipped to a 1:0 defeat at Sturm Graz in their most recent away Europa League fixture, and another low-scoring defeat seems likely this week.

Head coach Alexandersson has several selection issues to deal with. Niklas Castro and Sævar Atli Magnússon are unavailable for selection, while Eggert Aron Guðmundsson, Jonas Torsvik, Sakarias Opsahl and Niklas Jensen Wassberg are all listed as doubtful to feature this week.
