Belgium got off to a slow start in their 2026 World Cup Qualifying Group J campaign, picking up only one point in a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia, but they have responded well.

The Red Devils beat Wales 4–3 in their second group match and followed that up with a five-star display against Liechtenstein in midweek. Goals from Tielemans (2), Maxim de Cuyper, Theate, De Bruyne and Fofana helped Belgium secure a 6–0 win, their biggest since beating Azerbaijan 5–0 in 2023.

Chelsea goalkeeper Micky van der Hart and Union Saint-Gilloise midfielder Charles Vanhoutte are the new debutants in the Belgian national team squad, while Romelu Lukaku remains sidelined due to injury.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan began their Group J campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium in March. Craig Bellamy’s side responded with a 2-0 win over Liechtenstein on Match Day 2, but have not come close to matching this form since.

The Hawks lost their next two matches, including midweek's 1:0 defeat to Wales and they face another tough challenge on Sunday night.

The visitors will be without former captain Askhat Tagybergen who recently retired from international football. Meanwhile, Kairat Almaty goalkeeper Alexander Zarutskyi is currently dealing with an injury.
