Auxerre's only goal this season is to avoid relegation. They are currently in the relegation playoff position, with five points fewer than safety. However, three games without defeat in a row give Christophe Pelissier's team a lot of optimism. In the most recent outing, Auxerre won 3-1 on the road against Metz. The teams were pretty even throughout the game, but the visitors were fortunate to pick up a valuable victory. Now, they will welcome Rennes in another match that could prove vital.

After a big win in Metz, Auxerre's head coach, Christopher Pelissier, was very happy. He said, "There is satisfaction because we had lost the taste of victory. And we scored three goals, with luck having turned a bit. But I am not happy with the goal conceded. The road is still going to be very long, we know that."

Auxerre will not have a full squad for the upcoming game against Rennes. They will be without Telli Siwe, Francisco Sierralta, Oussama El Azzouzi, and Nathan Buayi-Kiala on Sunday afternoon.

After two mid-table seasons, Rennes have a much better campaign and could return to the European competitions this autumn. Currently, they are six points behind the top-four teams in Ligue 1. However, Rennes haven't played well lately, losing four of their last five matches. The negative streak ended last Friday, when Rennes shockingly beat PSG 3-1 at home. The visitors ended with xG of 3.59, while the hosts had only 1.36, but Rennes still picked up all three points. 

This week, Rennes appointed Franck Haise as head coach. He was previously the manager of Nice and Lens, but also the Under-19 head coach in Rennes when he was at the start of his coaching journey. Haise has never won a trophy in his coaching career, but his clubs have always been solid, and he should stabilize Rennes. 

Rennes will be without Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, Przemyslaw Frankowski, Jeremy Jacquet, Glen Kamara, and Yassir Zabiri, who are injured and will not travel to Auxerre this weekend.
