Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal prediction 13.09.2025 | La Liga

Since winning the title in 2020/21, Atletico Madrid have been Spain's third or fourth-best team in the following seasons. However, this year, despite a pretty active transfer window, Colchoneros have had a terrible start, winning just two points in the first three games. And if we take a look at their first three games, we can definitely say they haven't had a challenging schedule - Espanyol, Elche, and Alaves! 

After a 1:1 draw with Alaves, coach Diego Simeone spoke to the media. He said he is focusing on the performances, not only on the number of points they have won thus far. The coach acknowledged they should have won more points but noted he trusted the players and that they had to continue working hard, and the results would soon come. 

With the exception of the 2018/19 season, Villarreal have been between fourth and eighth place in La Liga and have constantly secured Europe. They even had some deep runs in the Champions League and secured the Europa League title in 2020/21. However, securing a top-four spot in La Liga hasn't happened since the 2015/16 season, which is something they definitely will look to achieve. And indeed, they started the season great, with seven points in the first three rounds, and are sitting in 3rd place - just two points away from the top spot. 

After a 1:1 draw with Celta Vigo, coach Marcelino spoke to the media. He said it was a shame they only won one point because they had three points in their hands as they conceded a goal in the stoppage time. The coach eventually praised his players for the effort but noted some mistakes in the passing, which they will have to fix as soon as possible.
