Oxford United vs Brighton prediction 27.08.2025 | EFL Cup

Last season was tough for Oxford United, but they successfully avoided relegation. The 2025/26 season will not be much different, as the team from Kassam Stadium is probably among the worst Championship teams, and their primary goal will be to stay as far as possible from the relegation battle. Oxford United have had a terrible start to the season, losing all three league matches. Last weekend, Gary Rowett's team lost 1-0 on the road against Birmingham. The home side finished the match with an xG of 1.66, while the guests had 0.38, so any other outcome than Birmingham's victory would be unfair. 

Oxford are still active in the current transfer window. A few days ago, they agreed on Ben Davies' loan from Rangers. The defender should become essential for Gary Rowett's side very soon. 

Oxford have some problems with injuries. They will be without Ciaron Brown, Luke Harris, and Ole ter Haar Romeny on Wednesday night against Brighton. Also, Nik Prelec is questionable. 

Brighton are one of the most stable Premier League teams in recent years. However, Fabian Hurzeler's team collected only one point in the opening two rounds, and a potentially bad result against Oxford United would be alarming. Last weekend, Brighton lost 2-0 on the road against Everton. The guests ended the match with an xG of 2.44, but their inefficiency hurt them. 

Brighton's transfer window is also far from over. A few players could leave the club in the upcoming week. Also, there are reports that Brighton is interested in AS Roma's Lorenzo Pellegrini. 

Brighton will be without Julio Enciso, Solomon March, and Adam Webster on Wednesday in Oxford. Also, Tom Watson is questionable, and his status will be clearer closer to the kickoff. Brighton's head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, will probably decide to rotate the squad and give an opportunity to reserves in the upcoming EFL Cup clash.
