Newcastle face their first home fixture of the season after a frustrating goalless draw against Aston Villa last weekend. Despite dominating much of the match, the Magpies could claim only a point against a poor home side. 

A strong home record proved the foundation for Newcastle's successful qualification for the Champions League last season. Eddie Howe's men won 12 of 19 home games, including four of their five most recent PL matches at St James's Park.

Averaging over two goals per game in home fixtures, Newcastle are likely to pose a serious threat to the visiting champions this weekend. However, the loss of Alexander Isak is expected to dent their attacking output on Monday.

Head coach Howe is unable to call on the Swedish striker, as well as injured trio Sven Botman, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock.

Liverpool makes the trip to St James's Park in confident form after a 4:2 opening day victory against Bournemouth last weekend. Despite being pegged back to 2:2, Arne Slot's men proved their quality with a decisive late win at Anfield. 

High-scoring outcomes have become a recurring theme in Liverpool's results this year. Each of their last 12 matches finished with BTTS. All but one of those games finished with at least four goals scored. 

On the road, Liverpool enjoyed the best away record in the division last season, recording 11 wins while losing just three of 19 games. Still, with 25 goals conceded, defensive vulnerabilities remain in the Reds rearguard. 

Head coach Slot will be forced into at least one change to his first XI this weekend. Summer signing Jeremie Frimpong misses out after he picked up a hamstring injury in training.
