At Estadi Ciutat de València, Barcelona won three times and Levante twice.

Levante

Levante team overview

Levante spent the last three seasons in La Liga 2 and managed to win promotion last year by winning the title. Now, in the Spanish top-flight division, their only goal is to survive somehow. Still, they haven't had the best start as they lost 2:1 vs Alaves in the season's opener.

After a 2:1 loss to Alaves, coach Julian Calero spoke to the media. He said they struggled with defending set pieces, which could be the difference maker in this match. The coach also added that the team must not lose calm and confidence after losing the first game of the season.

FC Barcelona

Barcelona team overview

Last year, Barcelona won the double, securing La Liga and Copa del Rey titles while also reaching the Champions League Semi-Finals, where Inter eliminated them on a 7:6 aggregate. Over the offseason, they haven't changed the team too much, and we expect another successful season from the Catalan team.

This season started pretty well for Barcelona, winning 3:0 vs Mallorca on the road. However, the Catalan team has some problems with absences. Robert Lewandowski and Marc-André ter Stegen are out injured, while Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martín, and Roony Bardghji are not yet registered for La Liga and will miss the second game. Oriol Romeu is also unavailable, as the club reportedly plans to terminate his contract. According to Spanish media, Barcelona hopes to register the first three players once some youngsters are sent out on loan.

Prediction

Levante lost the first game of the season 2:1 vs Alaves after allowing a goal in the stoppage time. However, Alaves were a better team and deservedly won. So, it is hard to expect they won't get outplayed entirely by (arguably) the best team in La Liga.

On the other hand, Barcelona opened the season well, beating a very good Mallorca team 3:0 away from home. Yes, Mallorca received two red cards just before the end of the first half, but Barcelona already had a two-goal lead before those red cards. Also, last season, Barca won 74% of their La Liga games and should do well vs Levante.

Additionally, Barcelona won four of the last five h2h games. Considering the trend in the previous h2h games and what we saw from these teams in the season's opener, we expect Barcelona to dominate the popular Frogs and win by at least two goals difference.

3 Reasons why Barcelona should win and cover the -1.5 AH spread

  1. Levante lost the first game of the season vs Alaves 2:1
  2. Barcelona won 3:0 vs Mallorca in the season's opener
  3. Barcelona won four of the last five h2h games
