Verona’s December began with a flicker of belief. A 3-1 win over Atalanta raised eyebrows, and the 2-1 victory against Fiorentina felt even bigger. Then reality returned.

Heavy 3-0 defeats to Milan and Torino followed, before Paolo Zanetti’s side showed some grit in a 2-2 draw with Napoli. Last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Lazio, though, dragged them straight back into trouble.

Home form is a worry. Four defeats from the last five here suggests Thursday could test patience again. Gift Orban remains the main goal threat with five league goals and should start alongside Giovane, who has chipped in with three.

Tomas Suslov is sidelined until March with a serious knee injury, while Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro also misses out due to an ankle problem.
