Thursday night in Verona feels tense, maybe even familiar. The hosts are once again fighting to stay in Serie A, hoping to make it seven straight seasons of survival. Sitting bottom with just two wins from 19 games is hardly comforting. Bologna arrive 11 places higher in ninth, and the odds lean their way. However, Verona have a habit of making life awkward for the Red and Blues here, avoiding defeat in five of the last six H2H meetings at this stadium.

Since 2022, these sides have met eight times in competitive matches. The balance is almost perfect. Three wins apiece, two draws, and an average of 2.50 goals per game. Not explosive every time, but rarely dull.
Hellas Verona team overview
Verona’s December began with a flicker of belief. A 3-1 win over Atalanta raised eyebrows, and the 2-1 victory against Fiorentina felt even bigger. Then reality returned.
Heavy 3-0 defeats to Milan and Torino followed, before Paolo Zanetti’s side showed some grit in a 2-2 draw with Napoli. Last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Lazio, though, dragged them straight back into trouble.
Home form is a worry. Four defeats from the last five here suggests Thursday could test patience again. Gift Orban remains the main goal threat with five league goals and should start alongside Giovane, who has chipped in with three.
Tomas Suslov is sidelined until March with a serious knee injury, while Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro also misses out due to an ankle problem.

Bologna team overview
Bologna also enjoyed a solid start to December, losing just once in four games and picking up two wins. Since then, the Red and Blues have stalled. Seven matches without a win tells the story, with four defeats and three draws.
Two of those losses came away from home, although Bologna’s overall road form remains respectable. Thirteen of their 27 points this season have been collected on their travels.
The last match brought problems. Nicolò Cambiaghi, who has three goals and four assists, was sent off, while Jhon Lucumí was forced off injured early. With Lucumí sidelined, Martin Vitík is expected to slot into central defence.
Up front, Santiago Castro will lead the line, aiming to build on his five league goals. Federico Bernardeschi remains out with a collarbone issue, while Lucumí’s muscle injury adds to the concerns.

Prediction
A draw at the Bentegodi keeps nagging at the back of my mind. Verona tend to make life uncomfortable for Bologna here, staying unbeaten in five of the last six home meetings. The Red and Blues arrive without a win in seven league games, which tells its own story. Defending late has been an issue on both sides. Bologna, especially, have conceded in five straight away trips. A messy 2-2 wouldn’t feel forced at all.
Three reasons we expect at least three goals in this game
- Bologna failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five away games.
- 10 of the last 12 games of Verona produced two or more goals.
- Four of the last five meetings between Verona and Bologna at Bentegodi produced over 2.5 goals.
Main prediction Hellas Verona - Bologna
Over 2.5 goals
