An exciting game awaits us on Thursday night in England, when Crystal Palace and Fredrikstad face off in the Conference League play-offs. This is the first leg of a two-legged tie with the winner securing a place in the Conference League group stage. The bookies have made the hosts the clear favourites to win Thursday’s game. We'll explain why in our Crystal Palace vs. Fredrikstad preview.
H2H stats
Thursday’s game will mark the first ever meeting between Crystal Palace and Fredrikstad. The Eagles have never faced a Norwegian side before, and neither have Fredrikstad faced an English side.
Crystal Palace team overview
Crystal Palace have had plenty to celebrate over the last couple of months. Oliver Glasner’s side secured a spot in the Europa League by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley in August.
However, just a week later, PSG won the French Cup, which meant that Olympique Lyonnais moved from the Conference League to the Europa League. Although the Eagles then had to move into the Conference League, they will still be excited about returning to Europe for the first time in over two decades.
Oliver Glasner and his team won the Community Shield on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Liverpool last weekend, and they once again demonstrated their potential in the Premier League when they played a goalless draw with World Champions Chelsea last time.
Despite playing the likes of Arsenal, Villa, Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, the Eagles are now unbeaten in their last nine games, making them favourites for Thursday’s game.

Fredrikstad team overview
Fredrikstad secured a spot in the third qualifying round of the Europa League by finishing sixth last season. The Aristocrats were unable to make the most of this opportunity as they lost both legs of their tie with Midtjylland, with an aggregate score of 5:1.
Andreas Hagen and his team have been given another chance with a place in the Conference League playoffs but their recent form is poor. They have won only one of their last 14 games across all competitions, losing eight and drawing five.
Having also kept just one clean sheet in the seven away games played in that spell, beating Palace at Selhurst Park on Thursday will be a difficult challenge. Another major concern ahead of their trip to English is the absence of Valdemar Birksø who is dealing with a muscle problem.

Prediction
Palace have been hard to beat over the last couple of months, but they could improve their defence, particularly at Selhurst Park. The Eagles kept just three clean sheets in their last ten home games, seven of which produced three or more goals. Fredrikstad are also struggling defensively at the moment, so I think Thursday’s game will end with at least three goals.
Three reasons we expect at least three goals in this game
- Three of the last five competitive games of Crystal Palace ended with over 2.5 goals.
- Fredrikstad kept a clean sheet in just one of their last seven away games.
- Four of the last five games of Fredrikstad in Europe ended with three or more goals.
Main prediction Crystal Palace - Fredrikstad
Over 2.5 goals
