  • Competition: FIFA Club World Cup
  • Date: Monday, 16th June, 2025
  • Kickoff: 23:00 UK / 00:00 CEST
  • Venue: Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Gardens, FL)

On the third day of the FIFA Club World Cup, one of the most interesting games will be between Boca Juniors and Benfica, which will take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens (USA).

Boca Juniors, a 35-time Argentine winner, is among the biggest clubs in Argentina and South America. However, they haven't won a title since the 2022 season and failed to do so in this Apertura tournament as well. The popular "Blue and Gold" reached only the Quarter Finals, where Independiente eventually got the better of them, beating them 1:0. But the biggest disappointment was early in the year when they failed to secure Copa Libertadores after Alianza Lima eliminated them in the Playoffs Semi-Finals. Looking at the group, this match against Benfica could be a massive one for them, as it might very well decide who secures the next phase.

Benfica, a 38-time Portuguese winner, failed to win another title as they finished two points behind Sporting. They were in a superb position to win the title, but after winning two points in the last two games, they blew the opportunity. In the Taça de Portugal, the same opponent stopped them from winning the title, beating them 3:1 after extra time in the Finals. Before the start of the FIFA World Cup, they are considered by the bookies as the second-best team in Group C.

Boca Juniors vs Benfica pick: Under 2.5 goals

Boca Juniors were pretty consistent in this bet in the last games of the season, as they went under 2.5 goals in the last three and four of the last five. They had big problems offensively, scoring only four goals in those five matches - 0.8 per game. So, scoring a goal against Benfica seems like a big challenge.

Benfica, similarly to Boca Juniors, had problems scoring goals in their last matches. They had a strict schedule, considering they face off against Sporting (twice) and Braga, but it is still a pretty bad record, considering they scored one goal per game in all of those three matches.

Now, after almost a month of break for both teams and considering both teams' offensive struggles, we firmly believe that an under 2.5 goals bet seems like the best option for this tie.

Boca Juniors team news

On April 29th, the club sacked coach Fernando Gago, and Mariano Herron led the team until the end of the season. On June 2nd, the club decided to appoint Miguel Angel Russo as the new head coach. Interestingly, this is his third time as Boca's head coach. With Boca, Russo managed to secure Copa Libertadores (2006/07), one domestic league title (2019/20), and a Copa de la Liga title (2019/20) as well.

According to credible sources, central defender Ayrton Costa will miss the FIFA Club World Cup as the US denied him the visa. The reason behind this was due to an attempted robbery case from 2018.
