Italy will be looking to secure their first victory in Group I of the European World Cup qualifiers on Friday, when they play Norway away.

Norway have been in great form over the last few months. The Lions began their Group I 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with two consecutive victories, defeating Moldova 5-0 and Israel 4-2 in March. Prior to that, Haaland and his teammates defeated Slovenia and Kazakhstan in the Nations League, and they will be aiming to maintain their momentum on Friday.

Meanwhile, Italy have struggled in recent years, with Gli Azzurri being eliminated by Switzerland in the round of 16 at Euro 2024 and subsequently failing to go beyond the quarter-finals of the Nations League. Luciano Spalletti’s side are currently without a win in three matches, but having won each of their last two meetings with Norway, they will be confident of ending their winless run this week.

Led by Erling Haaland, Norway’s attack line has been in excellent form recently, and I expect them to score more than once this week. The Lions boast 24 goals from their last seven encounters with 18 of these coming in the last four games alone.

Aside from Norway’s attacking prowess, Italy are currently struggling defensively, with the Azzurri boasting just one clean sheet in their last 12 games across all competitions. The last three games all produced three or more goals, and I expect a similar outcome on Friday at Vålerenga IF's home ground.
