Celta Vigo team overview
After performing consistently well throughout last season, Celta Vigo were rewarded with a seventh-place finish, a result that will see them juggle a challenging fixture list this term as they compete in UEFA’s secondary tournament.
During the summer pre-season, Claudio Giraldez’s men featured in seven friendly outings, but the results were far from inspiring, as the Vigo-based side came out on top only three times while suffering four defeats in the process.
In the previous campaign, Celta thrived at Balaidos, collecting 36 points from 19 home games to rank as LaLiga’s fifth-best home side, and their fortress-like form will be pivotal as they navigate the challenges of this season domestically and on the continental stage.
The summer was busy for Vigo, who, after selling Jorgen Strand Larsen and Fer Lopez for €50 million, welcomed new additions like Ilaix Moriba, Ferran Jutgla, Borja Iglesias, and brought in Bryan Zaragoza on loan from Bayern Munich.

Getafe team overview
For the fifth straight season, Getafe have been content with mere survival in LaLiga, like last term when they finished in a respectable 13th position with 42 points, but they will be eager to break the cycle and make a stronger impression in the forthcoming campaign.
However, the team from Madrid’s outskirts struggled to find form in pre-season this summer, leaving few positive signs ahead of the new campaign, with five friendlies yielding no wins, three draws, and two disappointing defeats versus Elche and Lyon.
The numbers speak for themselves: last season, the Azulones were much more effective away from home, securing seven wins out of 19 LaLiga journeys, compared to just four successes at their own ground, underlining the contrast in their performances on the road.
During the summer, the Madrid club lost defensive pillar Omar Alderete, who moved to Premier League newcomers Sunderland, and brought in Abdel Abqar from Alaves on a free transfer as his replacement.

Prediction
Last term, Celta came out on top in both league meetings between the sides, edging a 1-0 victory at home in Vigo and clinching a 2-1 win on the road, with that success at the Coliseum ultimately sealing a European return for the Sky Blues. Moreover, the Azulones ended last season in dreadful form, suffering an astonishing seven defeats in their final eight matches, and worryingly, they have carried that poor momentum into the preseason, casting serious doubt over their ability to start the new campaign positively. Getafe face a series of challenges that could make life difficult at Balaídos on the opening weekend, yet despite the typically tight nature of clashes between these rivals, we believe the Vigo-based side possess enough attacking talent to break down the Madrid visitors and start LaLiga on a triumphant note.
Four Reasons we expect Celta Vigo to Win
- Celta Vigo have picked up five wins from their last eight LaLiga home matches.
- Getafe have suffered three defeats in their previous four LaLiga away games.
- Getafe have failed to score in all but one of their last four league trips.
- Both of last season’s meetings between the two sides went in Celta’s favour.
