  • Competition: Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers
  • Date: Monday, 14th October, 2024
  • Kickoff: 14:00 UK / 15:00 CEST
  • Venue: Nelson Mandela National Stadium (Kampala)

After Cameroon hammered Kenya (4:1) just three days ago in Yaoundé, the two teams will face off again against each other in the fourth round of the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, but this time on a neutral pitch - Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala (Uganda).

Kenya are #102 on the FIFA World Ranking List and #23 in the CAF Region. The popular "Harambee Stars" have never reached the World Cup and haven't had much success in the AFCON as well. For the previous AFCON, they were disqualified due to a FIFA suspension and failed to qualify for the tournament in 2021. In these Qualifiers, Kenya is 3rd with four points in three games and are under pressure to win points in order to have a real chance of reaching the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Cameroon are one of the best African national teams - currently ranked as the eighth-best in the continent according to the FIFA World Ranking. The popular "Indomitable Lions" managed to win five AFCON titles but only reached the 1/8 Finals in the previous one. The Lions started the Qualifiers really well, as they are 1st in the group with seven points in three rounds. They are one of the favorites to win the upcoming AFCON itself, so Qualifying for the tournament is a must.

Kenya vs Cameroon pick: Both teams to score

In the previous h2h game, just three days ago, Cameroon won 4:1. Even though they won just days ago and we believe they are a better team, we are reluctant to bet on them to win because they are far from impressive away from home. In the last 13 road games in all competitions, Cameroon haven't had a win! Still, they are scoring fairly regularly, and since they scored four goals in the previous game against Kenya, we are convinced they will score at least once on a neutral pitch.

Kenya had solid results lately. In the last 11 games, they only lost twice while winning on six occasions. More importantly for our bet, they scored at least a goal in eight out of those eleven games - 73%.

Considering the previous h2h game and all the above, we believe that both teams to score is the best bet for this AFCON Qualifiers game.

Kenya team news

After a 4:1 loss against Cameroon, coach Engin Firat spoke to the media. He was furious with his players, but also with the referee. He said that he spoke English with him, but when he tried to talk again, the referee said that he doesn't speak English. "We made too many mistakes, especially with the first goal, but in the end, Cameroon played well," the coach concluded.

Cameroon team news

In recent days, coach Marc Brys was furious with the Cameroon Football Federation because they did not include the name of his assistant on the match sheet. The coach threatened that he would resign if something like that happened again. There are speculations that the relationship between the coach and the federation is not good for some time, and we wouldn't be too surprised if he resigns soon.

Central defender Christopher Wooh suffered an injury in the previous game against Kenya and had to leave the field after just 19 minutes. With him out, Jean-Charles Castelletto might get the opportunity to start.
