Shamrock Rovers won four straight league titles in Ireland before failing to make fifth in a row last season. The Hoops ended two points behind the eventual champs - Shelbourne. This season, the Hoops once again look like the best team in the county, as they are in the top spot with an eight-point advantage over second-placed Bohemians. At the start of the season, the Hoops even managed to secure the Conference League 1/16, which was a massive success. Now, in the Cup, they should have an easy job against a Division 1 team.
Wexford are playing their ninth consecutive game in Division 1. Last season was one of their best, as they finished third and ended up in the Playoffs. Unfortunately, they suffered from elimination by Athlone. This season, Wexford are not as good as last season, considering they sit in 6th place with 27 points after 23 rounds. Still, the playoff spots are only six points away, but their overall form is definitely a reason for concern.
Shamrock Rovers vs Wexford pick: Shamrock Rovers to win and cover the -2 AH spread
Shamrock Rovers have been (expectedly) good this season, as they are considered to be the best team in the country. They have been good through the season but excelled at home, winning eight out of 12 games against better competition than Wexford. More impressively, they won by at least two goals in six out of those eight victories - 75%.
Meanwhile, Wexford won just once in the last seven matches in Division 1. So, it is difficult to expect they can do well on the road against the best team in Ireland.
Moreover, these teams met eight times, with Shamrock Rovers winning every time. Seven of those eight wins were by two (or more) goals difference - 87.5%. Considering the trend in the previous h2h games and the overall difference in quality and form, we believe that the hosts should secure a comfortable win and advance to the FAI Cup 1/8 Finals.

Shamrock Rovers team news
During the transfer window, the team added two new players - Egor Vassenin and John McGovern. Both are talented young players who shouldn't get too much playing time in the upcoming games. However, we might see them in the Cup, at least for limited minutes.

Wexford team news
The club has been pretty active during the Summer transfer window, adding six new players. Interestingly, one of them (Ajibola Oluwabiyi) came from the Shamrock Rovers academy on a free transfer. Ajibola didn't get much playing time in Shamrock, only playing in the Cup last season. However, he found his place at Wexford, as he was a part of the starting eleven in their previous match vs Athlone.
