Senegal are one of the best African teams and is currently #2 on the FIFA Ranking list in the CAF Region. They are the 2021 AFCON winners but had a disappointing previous tournament in Ivory Coast as they only reached the 1/8 Finals. After that failure, they changed the coach, and things started improving. In the AFCON Qualifiers, Senegal easily secured the second phase after winning 13 points in five rounds. This game against Burundi will only decide whether they finish 1st or 2nd in the group, and to secure the top spot, they need only one point.

Burundi are #139 on the FIFA World Ranking List and #41 in the CAF Region out of the 53 teams. They are a team that almost never appears in major competitions. Their only AFCON Appearance was back in 2019 in Egypt, where they lost all three games. In these Qualifiers, Burundi are without a chance to reach the desired second place regardless of the outcome of the last game. Right now, they won just four points in five matches.

Senegal vs Burundi pick: Under 2.5 goals

Senegal have been exceptional defensively, allowing just one goal in five games in the AFCON Qualifiers - 0.2 per game. So, we believe they can keep a clean sheet against poor Burundi. On the other hand, Senegal haven't been great offensively for a while now. They have scored over one goal just once in the last eight matches in all competitions. Due to not-great offense and fantastic defense, Senegal were under 2.5 goals in seven out of the previous eight matches.

Burundi also had some success defensively, securing three clean sheets in a row. To be fair, they faced poor competition in Somalia (twice) and Malawi, but it is still a solid record.

In the previous h2h game, about two months ago, Senegal won 1:0. Considering the previous h2h game, and all the above, an under 2.5 goals should be the safest option for the upcoming AFCON Qualifiers game.

Burundi team news

According to African media, coach Etienne Ndayiragije was sacked, and the FA appointed Patrick Sangwa. There was speculation that some of the players turned against coach Etienne. Winger Mohamed Amiss even publicly said he would not play for the NT until Ndayiragije was in charge of the team. Before the Burundi NT, the coach was a caretaker of Tanzania NT.
