Romania returns to action after a hard-fought 3:1 defeat against Spain on Monday. Despite a valiant display, the host nation were unable to match the superior quality of the pre-tournament favourites who booked their passage for the semi-finals thanks to an impressive second-half display.

After edging Montenegro 2–1 in their Group A opener, Marin Ion’s side will now need to rediscover the strong form they showed before the tournament to keep their hopes of advancing alive. Romania impressed over the past year with wins against Germany, Switzerland, and Czechia.

Denmark gave their qualification hopes a major boost with a convincing 5:0 win against Montenegro earlier this week. Mike Themsen and Jonathan Agyekum were among the goals as the Danes bounced back from a 1:0 defeat against Spain in their opening fixture.

A strong run of form before the competition saw Denmark claim victories in six of seven matches played since last November, including fine wins against Austria, Hungary, and Israel. While they need only a point on Thursday, we can expect the Danes to go in search of another victory.

With Romania knowing they have to win to advance, we should see an open contest with plenty of chances at both ends. Given both teams strong form this year, I expect both to net in what could prove a fascinating duel in Bucharest.
